Seems to be an on-demand scanner only for the free version.

The anti-virus company Antidote released a line of free products which allow to search for viruses and other malware programs on a computer, to treat or delete them. Such programs cannot provide real-time protection of a computer, monitoring of file system and network connections, but with their help it is possible to check up disks, folders or files, to find out the malware program and to neutralize it.

    Absolutely useless.

just downloaded and tested it, dosen't even detect eicar.

Most likely a data mining program to steal email addresses since it asks for your info to register.

The screenshots link posted in the the first post show pretty much everything. I did note that the Use Heuristics Analysis was unticked in my default install and now realize that the pic is probably from another version because some of my options are grayed out. I was able to tick heuristics though. Fast scan took 2:52 and System scan took 1:19. I should also note that I haven't updated the program yet.

PS. I'm in no way endorsing this product. I was just bored and decided to try it. VirusTotal gave it a clean bill of heath as well as my SAS, MBAM and Avira scans.

    Edit: spelling

Some capabilities are not yet realized, because they are disabled.

There's almost the old team who developed UNA Antivirus behind Antidote

It's meaningless to test with eicar:rolleyes:

What happened to UNA? If they failed the first time, what is different this time around?

Testing with eicar is just to see if your AV is functioning. For example if I wanted to check out if my local proxy for http scanning is working, I'd download it over http and see if it is caught and I'm notified before it loads or if it hit cache first.

EICAR is only useless if you don't know how to test with it...

That would make more sense regarding the death. But free doesn't mean good. Malware is usually a 'free' product too!

Do you mean that I should update the AV? I don't think it is an issue of updating. AVs should always detect eicar. Eicar is to confirm the AV is running.

    yet another av..

hmm they are spreading like real malware

    who said it's a rogue av? ;) [j/k]

    Interesting,
is eicar really to reflect a AV running?
What's meant by running? What's the meaning of the code of eicar?

Have you think that why the AV vendors add the detection of eicar?

Yes is to check if it actually functioning properly. Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eicar
