Anybody bought or considering buying a Lexmark printer?
i just bought this Z1300 model a few weeks ago from walmart and the thing is just a P.O.S....one problem after another with paper jams and cartridge jams - the thing is a total joke....the best part is they seem to have come up with the equivalent of DRM for ink cartridges - the color ink cartridge that came with it crapped out after about 100 pages "Even though there still may be ink remaining" according to the warning - you cant refill it, they give you a dumb SASE to return it to them, yeah im really going to do that, lol....i bought a black cartridge for it and the dmn thing only grudgingly allow you to print in black and white after you check this box and that box, act like youre committing a federal offense or something...its just so clear that all they want to do is rip you off with overinflated ink prices.....

is this whats been going on in the printer world lately?? i had a cheapie Canon pixma ip1500 and a cheapo HP printer and they both worked great especially for they money and didnt try to limit pages printed per cartridge or anything like that....i think im going to let the garbage truck run over this P.O.S....what a disgrace

    :D

Know the feeling only too well.

If you cant refill the cartridges, can you use a Continuous Ink System with them? Although you need a degree in Fluid Mechanics to get it working .

    Me too.

I've got a Samsung CLP-600N color laser. Paper jams galore within the first year. Yeah, I've also got an unadulterated P.O.S. :(

i suppose i could use Continuous Ink System if i knew what that was, Hairy Coo, lol...i didnt know this stuff was going on with printers - rip offs want you to buy some special pricey cartridge if you want the "privilege" of refilling it, ridiculous...

Its a reservoir of the different colour oinks sitting next to the printer with enough ink to keep you going for a very long time and very considerably cheaper-connected to the special cartridges in the printer by plastic tubes-like this one HERE.
This would be an older model CIS, from 2004.
Setting it up is MESSY,but if you can find a supplier for your model Lexmark printer- should be worthwhile.

The other alternative is to fill your own cartridges with inks, but is this possible-dont know about Lexmark cartridges.?

Are there any non factory ink cartridges available(at one quarter the price)?

Otherwise, another alternative is buy a Canon,Epson or HP printer, most models of which allow these aftermarket ink procedures

interesting link on CIS, Hairy Coo....
i dont think i would print enough to make that pay though....ill probably buy a cheap HP...last year had an old HP printer and id buy the carts for about $15 or so and just buy an ink refill kit....the brand new carts are good for about 4-5 refills and the refill kit cost about $15 and had enough ink for about 10 refills - worked great..
i havent looked for non-factory yet, maybe should start

hey Hairy Coo, is that England or Holland? Coo is dutch word for cow, no?
looks like an English cow though...

Would like to know which model as my HP psc won't scan unless you install all the hp software from the cd. ( Huge amount)

It will print if you just choose to install the drivers, but not scan.

Regrettably I am out of touch with him and no longer can remember the particular model no's.
It wasnt a multi function printer, but a dedicated printer, which in any case would need a lot less supporting software.

    Hi stapp,

I have a HP PSC2410. The full feature software/driver for this printer is 364.59M

The basic feature software driver is 48.54M. This enables me to use the MS XP scanner camera wizzard to scan from the PSC2410.

Have you tried searching the Hp web site for the drivers you require/ Here is the linky:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/static_software_select?lc=en&cc=nz&dlc=en&os=228&lang=en&

You might also like to have a look at VueScan by Hamrick Software. I have used it after installing the basic HP drivers and it worked excellently :D There is an option during the VueScan install for VueScan to install its own drivers if you haven't already installed the HP ones, though I haven't tried this method.

I found the full feature HP PSC driver/software to be bloated buggy and easy to beat with far more confident alternatives ... I am so glad I am no longer using the HP full feature software ...what a mission getting ride of it ... there is a special un-install tool from HP that requires four reboots during a layered removal techniqueo_O

Let me know if you have the PSC2410, I have most of the info bookmarked for it.
