firstly..hello all soooo..it turns out i have lost count of the models of gpu's since i last bought one and maybe someone would wanna help me pick the right one for my needs..i want is to be as performance effecient as possible within the 170-200 euro budget...some say go for HD3870 ...some other s some one of the billion of 8800 models(gt,gts,gtx god they r so many ;d)..nay ideas are welcome!thanks in advance!
Re: need help picking up a cpu I did go with Zotac GF8800GT. Is a low budget card with a good performance and you can tweak this card enormous if you want. This card is running here with Vista Ultimate 64 and I have no problems.

you want the 8800GT no question for that price range. wait? well gfx cards come out often even every 6 months so there always be something better. just get best bang for the buck and you be more than happy as the performance is great for the price and feel you picked up a bargain.
iirc 4850 is competitive with 9800GTX so it should beat the slower 9600GT. In fact why not get a 9800GTX?
Bought a Asus EN9600 GT for around 180 bucks and it gives the top score of 5.9 on Vista. Not a gamer here so that's all I can really tell you.
because the 4850 is 100 euro cheaper (~157 $ ) and if i was to pay that i'd get the 4870 instead wich is even more powerful but both out of the budget range..
The 9800GTX is about $200 is the US which is about 127 euros. I thought it would be cheap for you too. Sorry if I was mistaken

I didn't know if you meant on price and performance on the $200 mark or just better. A Geforce 9600GT is equal to a ATI HD 3870 so the HD 4850 sure beats it. The competitior was the Nvidia 9800GTX as WSFuser says. The HD4850 is a great buy for $200 but Nvidia have bitten back and become fiercely competitive with the faster 9800GTX+ for $230 which will be released in 3 weeks.
it still will cost me over the 4850 even without shipping :S so its either 4850 or i'll w8 for the summer to end and get the 4870 which will by then be really really cheap for its specs... anyone know if the DDR5 will be different from the DDR3?and how much more?
chris2busy a wise choice wait and sit on your hands until the end of August. estimated it be 60-80% the performance of Nvidia GTX 280 for half the price. what with the ATI 4870 X2(R700) to beat the Nvidia GTX 280 coming out in August but may not affect prices too much as it use the more expensive GDDR5. it really looks like ATI are going to beat Nvidia this year and good to see them back in the game. the GDDR5 is 3x faster and 2x the bandwidth over GDDR3 which enables the GPU capabilities to run 1.5x faster. interesting times and great buys for consumer. the Amd vs Nvidia debaters are having a field day and more a war. Ati's new 4800 series are absolute winner. But 4850 has some temperature issues cause of one slot cooler. If you can afford buy 4870 or wait 4850 models with better coolers (like His Iceq3).
