    Hello !

    I was a happy Nod32 v2.7 user and a month ago I upgraded to v3.0.
    Since then, I have a corrupted downloads problem. When I try to download with my browser files over 10 MB approx, either the download stops before end, either the downloaded file is corrupted o_O o_O

    Only HTTP downloads are affected. Files downloaded via P2P networks or Bittorrent are ok.

    I tried shutting down my firewall, using another browser, disabling Nod32, always the same. Since it seemed to be a HTTP-related problem, I tried to disable the Nod32 Web Access Protection. Nothing. Then I found this trick (thanks Owca) on this forum. Killing the ekrn.exe service (Eset Service) solved the problem, I could download again ! To notice that this service keeps running when you disable Nod32 ?

    Another workaround I found later that allows me to download normally : excluding my browser (Firefox) in Web Access Protection > HTTP > Web Browsers.

    Sorry for the bla-bla, here are my questions : does other Nod32 v3.0 users have the same corrupted downloads problem ? Is there other solutions than killing ekrn.exe or disabling browsing protection ? o_O

    PS - I contacted Eset support, they told me to upgrade my version to 3.0.650.0 - without success. I'm waiting for other solutions from them.

    #1) I don't have this problem -- running 3.0.657 on around 500 machines. We do huge downloads daily.

    #2) Something you might try until you figure out a real fix is a download manager. I have been using Flashget 1.7x for a long time and love it. It can often get large things downloaded (5GB files for example) which I timeout or stop otherwise. I use FlashGot so that I can use FlashGet in Firefox. I have FlashGot this on both my Windows and Mac.

    I stay away from Flashget 1.9.6 because it hooks you up to P2P networks even when you are not using them. 1.7x doesn't have this feature.

    I've had so many issues with antivirus gateways, nVidia firewalls, and other things. No more worries. This software grabs the data in small chunks, 5 streams at a time. You are basically bypassing these protections as they are incapable of scanning this traffic.

    thanks edwin for your answer !

    I already tried with a download manager, I used Free Download Manager 2.5 but with no results - same corrupted or abruptly ended downloads.

    Thanks for the FlashGet 1.7x hint. Going to try this one, even if it will not resolve the core problem. I guess I have something on my computer that interferes with Nod32 HTTP protection, but at this time I run out of ideas... :doubt:

    Something I think of, I lost my Windows Update icon in the systray at about the same time I installed Nod32 3.0. I don't know if the 2 problems can be related... ? icon is back, I had disabled IE7 installation checkbox.

    (Before doing any of this, make sure you have a good backup!)

    Nod32 2.7 had a feature to fix the Winsock -- I don't see this in 3.0. Spybot search and destroy has the feature to view them.

    winsock.png

    You can also view this using;
    netsh winsock show catalog

    You can reset it using;
    netsh winsock reset catalog

    This will reset you to a virgin state. You'll loose any tcp/ip plugins you have such as 3rd party firewalls and Netware clients. All previously-installed LSPs will have to be reinstalled.

    Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE LSP Explorer Add-on can back up and restore your settings, so that might be something to do prior to doing a reset. Odds are likely you got something screwed up in this area. (Unless it affects other PC's on your network. nVidia firewall's are know to cause the corrupt downloads for example.)

    thanks edwin for the help !

    Eset technical support called me back at home (cool guys :thumb: ) to try to solve my problem, we tried various things, none worked. According to them, it's the first time they're confronted to this download issue :D o_O (in my country that is - France - they said they'll try to have more info international)

    if i do that, what will I have to reinstall ? firewall, browser, email client ? Will my home network be harmed ?

    edwin, you're a COMPUTER KING !!!

    I listed my Winsock LSPs with the Spybot S&D tool, and I noticed I had several entries related to an old program I don't use anymore, NetLimiter 1.3

    So I uninstalled it ET VOILA ! I can download again ! :D
    So thanks a lot for your hints. And maybe my issue will help other people, Nod32 3.0 and NetLimiter 1.3 don't get along well together... :doubt: ;)
