Kaspersky v.8 (2009) Official Technical Release is out

that's simple, one of the "daddy" applications were in low restricted or high restricted. Permissions are inherited (otherwise if IE is in trusted a malware could easily hijack it and go on the internet). there's an option in the application rules, rules tab which allows you to ignore inherited rules for an application. - or you can add that parent applicatino to trusted.

yes, before you had allow This address->allow this address>allow this address (could for p2p software or even browsers), now you only need to follow a 3 step wizard to create a rule, or even just tick an option and press allow......way more complicated.

yes, for that you actually have to set it to deny via right click..and there are not 3 rules, one rule is for access to trusted networks, one for access to public and one for access to local.

for what you need with the firewall it sounds that all you want to change the network policy to prompt instead of allow

 

The option was most likely grayed out because a trusted application (.exe exists in the Trusted zone already) was started by an application from Low restricted group to modify system/monitored files/functions, thus there is no option "Add to Trusted group"... it's already there. This is implemented because, for ex., iexplorer.exe (which is Trusted) could be used to perform malicious actions if controlled by an application from the Low/High restr. group. If you like, you can disable the "Inherit restrictions from the parent process" in HIPS (aka Aplication filtering), or alternatively move the mentioned application (which started the Trusted application) to Trusted.

For other remarks (Alcohol, ...), please provide screenshots... detailed steps you took to modify the rules, maybe you're doing something wrong. (as I can't confirm your findings. )

I'll give it a go :right click on the "Networks" rule for Low restricted applications "folder/container" (do the same to High restricted if you/he likes) and set the rule to Allow. Once an application the user desires to specifically block is started, go to Application filtering, right click on the application Network rule and select Block. After all setting modifications, click OK and OK again (so that the rules are remembered/applied). It's not the same way like in v7, but remember, novices like it this way (aka Norton, McAfee users, or users who like to get some real job done on their computers instead of tampering with the rules...)


A small advice: get to know the application you use before you start to "bash" it (no offense )

 

Hi, just completed my first full scan and Im a bit confused. It has found 100s of dangerous threats - nearly all relating to quicktime.

Is this a FP as Im using max heuristics etc - or is there a prob with Quicktime?

No FP, just vulnerabilies. it means you flash/quicktime is not up-to-date. clicking those links will get you more information+download link

No They aren't FP ... KIS 2009 has a Vulnarability scanner, similar to Secunia PSI, so these are files that have some kind of vulnerability, see VirusTotal info in each link, moost of them are program that You might to update.

Well, that is very much your opinion to which you are entitled. But I think that you are most probably in a minority. Anyway, what you describe does not occur on my rig and so I will be using it and will be recommending it. As always no one solution is best for all.

It is relatively easy to use IMHO and it certainly took me very little time to get the hang of it. It is a different concept to KIS 7 and its introduction was pound to disappoint some...and obviously you are one of them.

My suggestion is that should you have issues then you should pass them on to Kaspersky via the Kaspersky Forum...the developers listen closely and respond.

Very much your opinion I am afraid and very much unsubstantiated by anyone else including my experiences of using KIS 2009 for the last 3 months...but then again it is YOUR opinion which you are entitled to express.

Well, as at 23:30 UK time (or 00:30 French time) KIS 2009 was NOT listed on the official French Kaspersky site; http://www.kaspersky.com/fr/homeusers, so I suspect that it has not been officially released yet!

 

It isn't on the main webpage , but the french support has already a forum about KIS 2009 and KAV 2009 here : http://grandpublic.kaspersky.fr/forum/

You can use your old license with it , but you will only be able ( officially ) to buy a new one on the 9th june.

Of course , we all know that you can buy the version 7 and use your license with the V8

 

I installed the french version on my main computer. I did the install over v7 but that caused the computer to be extremmelly slow and unresponsive after the reboot. As an exemple firefox was taking 5 mins to start. I uninstalled everything and did a cleanup and reinstalled and it was fine after that.

Some stuff I noticed:
Firewall still has trouble keeping up with games like Lord of the rings Online. I have to turn it off when I play because it drop packets not being able to keep up and it cause massive lag in the game.

Scan IS faster, nice I like the revamped inetrface too. I haven't fiddle with the options yet, planning on doing that tonight.

 

It is not recomended installing KIS 2009 over version 7, better unsinstall completelly KIS/KAV7 first, and then clean the registry system, and do a fresh install of the new KIS/KAV 2009.

What about 64 bit support ? I remember version 7 didnot have native 64 bit drivers .........

 

version 6, 7 and 8 jhave 64 bit drivers. otherwise nothing would work, you need 64 bit drivers for 64 bit windows.

 

any update with chkdsk isssue in KIS8?

anybody experience it?

That "issue" (I wouldn't even call it an issue, since it's so stupid) is not present anymore in 2009 products.

 

you right that issue doesn't exist & I am running it now & it accepted my license, found a trojan that my other AV missed (no names) I like the new version a lot easier to configure not that v6 or v7 was hard but this is a nice version...

DriveSentry it's a Security 2.0 Antivirus and Antispyware protection (see the site) so ... why would You want to have both KIS 2009 and DrivSentry at the same time in Your system? KIS 2009 it's a complete Security Suite.

Two antiviruses at the same time...Strongly NOT reccomended.
However, it runs perfectly with all the security softwares I have in my sig.
