Yeah, the final build of 3.2 has been made. I expect it will be released to market in a day or two. Anyone who currently has a valid 3.x license will receive 3.2 free of cost (regardless whether or not they have maintenance). When 4.0 comes out, if you have active maintenance on your 3.x license then you will receive 4.0 free of cost.

Thanks for the update! 3.1 has been smooth for me but new versions are always appreciated! :D

You're already working on 4.0? I wonder what it will bring.

Based on Jo Ann's results, I decided to try SP to see if it could 'pry me' away from my favorite and trustworthy DS.

Unfortunately, after booting my Desktop PC using the SP Boot CD, my evaluation came to an unexpected halt when SP's VistaPE environment did not even 'see' my 2 HDDs on a Promise RAID controller! I next booted into SP's Win2003 environment, but had the same problem.

There may be a solution to this problem (by adding the Promise driver), but as I'm very happy with DS I don't need the hassle.

After booting the Vista-based WinePE "recommended" environment, if you don't see your disks just go to the Tools menu and select Load Drivers and in the dialog specify a path to a network share or USB drive that contains the storage controller driver for your particular controller and press the Load button. After your driver loads, refresh the Disk Map tab's view and you'll see your disks.

Can you tell me the exact Promise controller model that you have installed? I'll do what I can to get its driver added to our environment so that you don't have to take any extra steps to load it.

is it just me or is shadow protect desktop version 3.2 interface genrally slow to respond? older versions when i tryed it ages ago i didnt have this issue. such as clicking next on the backup wizard can cause it to crash for a while. plus the fact that starting a backup takes longer but once its started it is fast.
how long has version 3.2 been out?
i have requested the full trial since i havent tryed the recovery cd on my current pc hardware.

Hi, lodore. SPD v3.2 has been out for less than a week as far as I know (think it was released on April 25th, so not long at all).

Funny you mentioned the interface being slower than earlier versions. I have v3.2 installed on three different machines and, if anything, I have found it to be more responsive than v3.1, particularly the wizard. For example, when I clicked on "next" in the v3.1 wizard it took several seconds to get to the following screen. v3.2 takes just a little more than a second for that operation and I have found it to be a bit speedier, in general, compared to v3.1. Perhaps just a matter of different machines and/or configurations. ??

I've just bought SP and updated the program from 3.1.03 to 3.2.02. Everything is fine, I was just wondering whether the recovery CD should also be updated as the ISO image is still 3.1.0.3. Checking the ISO image has cost me one download of the possible 5.

I can't find any links on Promise's site for the F6-floppy (miniport driver) for this controller.

Is this an embedded/ASIC controller? If so, on which exact make and model of motherboard? I'll see if I can track down the right drivers from your mobo manufacturer.

Wow - Promise's web site is *slow*.

Got it! Thanks for the info too - that's exactly what I needed. I'll make sure that the driver gets injected into our .ISO tomorrow morning and I'll also try to post it on a private FTP folder for you to try out. :)

    Cheers!

Thanks for the prompt action. Shoot me the d/l link when the new ISO is ready and I'll test it out.

Markymoo uses Terabyte to backup his EF/RB-snapshots. According him it was the best backup solution for EF/RB after trying other alternatives. He has spent a whole thread on this subject. :)

You probably downloaded "30-Day Free Trial", which has no Rescue CD.
You need "Request Full Evaluation" and then you get an email and link to an ISO-file to create the Rescue CD, which can also be used to install SP under Windows.

Please confirm whether this is just a last-minute verification of the image file (which sound to me like what you're saying), or whether it actually verifies that the written/restored image matches what's in the image.

    Thanks,

    Robert

Can't you do that with SP Desktop Edition simply by running it from the Recovery CD?
