Maybe someone can help me then?

I was trying to update to Ad-aware 2008 but I think I'll pass too! When I tried and then searched for the .exe file to complete download (several files were found (including the old program) and none would open and were trying to open in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer except of course it said "No Preview Available" LOL~ I'm completely lost on that!!! It's not fully downloaded so can't go to Add/Remove programs because it's not listed. How do I get rid of whatever they put on my computer? I did run CCleaner.

Also went back and tried to uninstall the old version Ad-aware Personal SE and when I tired something called a "Wise Uninstall" thing popped up and said "Could Not Open Install.log File"!!! What is thiso_O??

    Thanks,

Did you try to update by downloading the new program, or has the fiendish AdAware 2007 got its' own updater?

    Re: Ad-Aware 2008 Released

Ok. If I'm posting to the wrong forum/thread for this I apologize!

I went and did a google search for my issue and found a post by LS Steve (Former employee of Lavasoft) posted to another forum. Instructions for un-installing Ad-aware Personal SE were as follows:

    *My Computer>Ad-aware Folder
    *Run unregaaw.exe
    *Delete entire Adaware folder
    *Delete in Start Menu
    *Delete from Desktop
*Navigate to Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Lavasoft and delete entire folder
    *Empty Trash Bin

I completed every step except nothing found under Documents and Settings?
Went to next step and emptied Recycle Bin and rebooted computer. I'm operating Windows XP

Now when I do another search for aaw.exe (Ad-aware 200:cool: only aaw.exe is found and when trying to open it says:
    C:\Program Files\aaw2008.exe is not a valid Win32 application

In the future what other ad-ware freeware do you recommend?

    Thanks,

    Vera

    Now what?

    Tarq57,

Must have been posting at the same time. Sorry!

I never got updated to Ad-aware 2007....was still on Ad-aware Personal SE; somehow I completely missed the boat! LOL!

    Re: Ad-Aware 2008 Released

A couple of options. Firstly, just check again that it's not listed in "add/remove programs". If it is, uninstall it from there. If not, you could try and re-install AdAware2008, and once it's installed use it's own uninstaller to remove it. That doesn't sound so desirable, because, for some reason, your original install failed.
The other option is to manually uninstall it, which basically means removing all lavasoft files, then using a registry cleaner like Ccleaner to remove any invalid reg entries.
Back to the "documents and settings" thing, look there for a sub folder (hidden) called "application data". It will be in there. It will also be in" ~Documents and settings/all users/windows/application data".
There are at least three other free versions of antispyware programs that will serve you better than what you had. The three I'm thinking of are Superantispyware, MBAM, and Asquared.

Agreed on that. I personally prefer SAS but all 3 are good from what I have experienced and read.;)

Well all I know is I tried the SEARCH all files and folders and couldn't find anything in Documents and Settings....if it was hidden wouldn't it be found anyways thru this? Will go back and double check for hidden files in Documents and Settings. What a pain!

I tried downloading Ad-aware a 2nd time just to see what would happen from the site and I get the same thing upon using the Search Files and Folders:

aaw2008 C:\Program Files.....0 bytes. Opens with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer!!
aaw2008.exe....type: part file...had a size I don't recall, but still set to open in Windows picture and fax viewer!!

That is some CRAZY crap!! Anyways deleted them. Nothing in Add/Remove Files...never fully downloaded to make it that that far.

Well I'll try one of the 3 Anti-Spyware you suggested. Thanks

Good one. It's pretty intuitive to use, has excellent support, and functions well.
    You won't look back.
