Great idea

 

imo a better firewall one that allows more user input without a million pop ups when using the ask me option..

a better gui... one thing i dislike about 2007 and 2008 is the whole gui. just dont like it though i suspect it will not change much.

lighter still...ill agree 2008 was a big improv. over even 2007 and im hoping this trend will continue to 2009...i may even switch to it if they can shrink this down some and make it use less resources than it does now...as i said its better but not great.

web browsing faster. one thing i hated about the 2007 and 2008 is when web pages loaded they tend to almost load the whole way then the quickly kinda cut out and reload again this time though they load the whole page.. and yes it may be even faster than some but i find it annoying the way it loads.

maybe a type of hips or a behaviour mointor etc...

more updates more often.. i saw norton's at times get one update a day or sometimes every 2 days.. and usually not on weekends. more updates even at least a few times a day or just to allow it to check your program to make sure you have the most current updates even if there is not one ready at that time..

off the top of my head thats all for now.. if i think of more ill post it up..

 

2008 is not as good as 2007, so maybe the trend will continue and 2009 will be great again

 

I suppose that's where AntiBot would sort of come in, though I've seen some great job done by the SONAR before when my PC wasn't getting well. If I'd used TF at the time too (which I always use nowadays), I suppose I could have cleaned everything out permanently or atleast the serious stuff, but I'm still pretty happy with the different behavourial protection features that's built-in right now. The thing that makes me unable to see it in action more is that I tend to stay clean - sorry.

I can also agree the GUI can be a little messy at times, but out of interest - could you tell me in details what you don't like in the GUI? Thx!

But lets say they put AntiBot in NIS, I wonder how the average less wired user would deal with those alert popups. Would you say AntiBot is ready for the mass-market ?

 

If it's available as an optional/recommended add-on pack like Parental Control and Anti-Spam - yes. Basic/novice users won't install something additional they don't need or understand.

 

Actually, I think 2525 would be an even better year (that is, if man is still alive).

There is a feature called Heuristics based scanning in the Norton which is not available in any of the other AV programs. It will scan for viruses based on the behavior of the malicious program. Norton Can also Identify the Pharming websites.

 

Do you mean something else? Because every single legitimate antivirus program has heuristic scanning.

 

If you mean behavior based on demand scan, that is a old story of 10 years ago.

 

* Better spyware detection
* Better firewall (the firewall is really week)
* The effectiveness that it had in the 90's

 

Norton Antibot hardly gives any pop ups. So I think it can be included in the security packages 360 and NIS.

 

Be able to right click the notification icon so you can run live update.

GUI colour scheme and skinning change would be nicer, bored with it's orange and black.

 

And hardly does any job . I tested this in combination on VMWare with XP . Antibot never stopped any threat , known spyware , nothing . It just let them pass . I supposed it would simply block at least half the things . I don't see anything good in this , just slows down the machine but where is prevention ?

 

I once experienced Norton Antibot stopping an installation of GDATA Internet Security, saying it was a threat.....well well well....goodbye NAB, hello GDIS

Yea, Symantec doesn't like anything better than them on your computer

 

And it really does spy on you too... and slows down your PC, even a quad core. Well... honestly, in 2008 they would appear to have improved on that. But the disk I/O when running resident is slowing down systems the most I guess. Background scanning sucks. Plain and simple. I was a very big fan of them in the early years, but now... really... come on. Anybody more than a plain end user will look further than this package of... sorry to have to say it... rootkit. I mean.... EVEN with their own removal tools there are litterally thousands of links to symantec and norton remaining in the registry, and whatever else they like to use, like live update etc. Not to mention the files that are still there...

 

Hard to convince some, but Norton 07 was actually fast and light on my P4. As for Norton, it creates ~2500 registry entries, which is about avg. After running the built-in uninstall there are only a few folders left in the registry.

As for NAB, it probably flagged the definitions in GData as malicious.

 

No surprise. NIS/NAV 2009 are kick-ass. The performance is top notch. They are in the top 2-3 of all reviews.

Looking forward to NIS2010...

You really need to get your facts straight and not just repeat what some Norton bashers have said. Im running NIS 2009 and it so light I can't even tell it is there. The uninstaller in the new norton works very well, I have had NIS 2009 installed and removed many times when I test other av products. I will agree earlier versions did leave numerous but not thousands of entries in the registry. Your kind of posting is the worst kind of tripe. Big words and no facts. Your speculation doesn't make it so.

Yep I agree with bigc NIS 09 is very light ~8 MB of memory thatz quite less and regarding leftover registries use CCleaner or TuneUp or Registry Mechanic to remove them
