SAS found an infected txt file.

    This is what was found.


    Trojan.Malware
    D:\asdf.txt

    Does anyone know much about this I can't find much on google about it. I quarantined and deleted it.

    Arent txt files harmless? Is it possible to infect through a txt file?

    extensions can be faked...

    For future reference, SAS False positives can be reported and quickly addressed via their Fasle Positives Forum.

    As for that particular find, it was reported at their forums in this thread.

    No, but if you have doubts go to the quarantine and restore it.

    I deleted it this morning when I woke up. I found it last night.

    I also deleted all my restore points after I deleted it :oops: I know that malware can stay in restore points so I wanted to start with a clean slate. I kinda screwed myself there huho_O

    If you did a backup after the infection, also the image is infected. A restore later might re-infect your computer.

    Yes how long was it there,as a precaution i would make new backups and delete the old ones.

    But a contaminated txt file Hmmmm..,but as Mikenas pointed out,its maybe a hidden excecutable.

    Learn your lesson and post it in the SAS Forum, any reason why you didn't? However I hope you machine is running OK now.

    I didn't know it could of been a FP and my laptop is running ok.

    If you are really that concerned about it then run data recovery (GetDataBack, Recuva, etc.) and restore the file.
