Backing Up Outlook 2003

    I'm using TI 11.8053.

    I've tried now three times to back up my Outlook data, settings, account settings etc. using the pre-set tasks.

    I have yet to be successful.

    TI alternates between starting the backup and hanging, or seeming to start, but never showing the progress screen, so that it is unclear if anything is actually being backed up.

    Is there something I'm missing here?

    Also, are the actual account setups (smtp, pop etc setting) for all the accounts getting pulled from the registry as well?

    What do I need to make this work properly?

    Could you please clarify, are you trying to perform "My E-mail" or "My Application Settings" type of backup?

    Many thanks for the provided information.

    Could you also tell us what e-mail client you use (e.g. Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007 etc.)? If you use Microsoft Outlook 2003 tell us the size of Outlook.pst file please. It can be found in C:\Documents and Settings\[your_account_name]\Local Settings\Applications Data\Microsoft\Outlook if you use Windows Xp or in C:\Users\[your_account_name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook folder if you run under Vista.

    I'm using Outlook 2003 SR-3. I just archived a great portion of the pst. It was at 6.5 gigs and is now down to about 1.75 gigs.

    Please accept sincere apologies for the mistyping in my previous post.

    Unfortunately it's a known issue that Acronis True Image 11.0 Home fails to back up large Outlook 2003 accounts. Please be sure that our Development Team is already aware of the issue and they are working on issue fixing. The issue will be fixed in the nearest future. We are really sorry for the inconvenience you have experienced.

    FYI, I am having a similar problem backing up Outlook 2003 with True Image Home 11.0 build 8053. In my situation, I'm also using the "My e-mail" option. My Archive.pst is 885 MB and my Outlook.pst is 60 MB which I wouldn't call huge.

    Im my case, I have discovered that the "My e-mail" option will not back up Outlook 2003 data if Outlook is running. If Outlook is running, the only thing that gets backed up is the Windows Address Book (I have all options checked for e-mail backup) and I get no error messages. True Image claims that the backup was successful! If Outlook is NOT running, the backup works fine.

    I have another backup product that I used to use for backups, and it had the same problem. If either Outlook or ActiveSync was running, the backup of Outlook would not proceed because, apparently (based on that product's log), Outlook and ActiveSync lock the Outlook data. In the case of True Image, however, "My e-mail" backup does appear to work OK when only ActiveSync is running.

    I have downloaded the Microsoft Outlook backup add on which backs up all of my outlook files to anywhere I specify - it's a free add on.
