I hope they have fixed the problem with "On-Access scanner has stopped working". It made me have to uninstall.

I didn't get any notification and Avira just updated the VDF a few minutes ago. I did get a new engine update last night and that caused Guard to promptly flag Javacool's Eulalyzer ver 1 file (in my downloaded programs folder) as a trojan. :( I submitted it as an FP. (It doesn't flag the current ver2 file but that uses a different packer from ver1).

I have Avira set to notify about new program updates and then wait one week before notifying again. If I didn't have it set like that it would notify constantly because I have to delete a file to keep avwsc.exe from running every three minutes to check with the XP Security Center that I have permanently disabled...yet avwsc.exe runs anyway and eventually runs constantly and eats up CPU so I have to delete the file and then that makes the new program updates notification happen almost constantly unless I set it to notify only once a week. If I fetch these new files you listed, that means that avwsc.exe will also be fetched and then I will have to again delete the file. You'd think Avira would have realized that a lot of us don't use the XP Security center and would have made avwsc.exe not run if it detected the Secuity Center as completely disabled. But then Avira just yesterday confirmed again that they have no interest in having users who know anything about antivirus applications using Avira. They want only newbies and folks who know nothing about AV.

Users have been complaining again in the avira forum about not being able to do a full on demand scan and not sit at the computer and babysit the scanner because it will not do a full scan and make a report at the end and wait for the user to decide what to do about anything found. Instead, the scanner stops on every detection and waits for user intervention meaning that you cannot do a full scan unattended.

Others have again brought up the problem of it being difficult to add exclusions and were asking why couldn't there be a box to check when Avira alerts that would automatically exclude the file. Avira's reply to both was the same reply they give every time these are brought up: we don't want to do anything that might confuse newbies and average users. Even when it is pointed out these could be hidden choices available only to advanced users, Avira has still insisted that they do it this way to protect the newbie and average user and everyone else has to live with that. The person asking most recently for a full scan, with a report at the end, stated that every AV they had used provides this but Avira. They said why would an average user be confused by what all AV do already except Avira? The reply was that Avira does not want to confuse the average user and side stepped the fact average users use other AV without problems and those AV can do a full scan without stopping on every detection and can provide a report at the end and wait for the user to take action then.

Both of these have been on the wish list for some time and were asked for in the beta also. Avira's response every time is that the newbie and average user is their sole priority and the rest of us should get another AV if we want more "advanced" features.

    Very interesting clarification.
Based on their (AVIRA) response, are you going to continue to influence a change in their policy?
You appear to be using their product, with all it's apparent flagrant disregard for the "advanced" and "paranoid" users of AV programs.
    Cheers

Why is this a problem? You ran the scan on a clean machine you won't see alerts. If the pc is infected i assume you want to remove the threats when you encounter them.If it detects something and you are not sure you choose ignore and continue.Did u ever encountered more than 1 fp on a full scan.I didn't even excluded the torrent folder from Luke and there are many dubious things in there:)

The scanning pop up issue is annoying. I mean, what if you want to go somewhere and let avira scanning? When you come back, avira could still be at 5% prompting you what to do. And you sure can't set apply to all option with "delete", since some false positives could be deleted.

Or just pick the "Automatic" option under config: "scanner" - "action for concerning files" with something that suits you.... et voila, no more babysitting. After the scan has finished, look at the report or the "events" tab in the GUI.

Mele with all due respect, you have a tendency to come up with the phrases "official statements" and "confirmations" if something pisses you off.

Slightly off topic, but kind of related...
I have a full scan set to run weekly, at 2am. In version 7, the scan would run, and the 'luke filewalker' window would stay open until I closed it manually, the next morning. In v8, the window closes of its own accord (hopefully after completing the scan).
Is this a new 'feature', or a bug?
