My security apps are listed on my sig.

Here is how I use them:

    1.- SANDBOXIE
-All my browsing is doing sandboxed, except when updating.
-One sandbox for IE, which only allows IE to run in it.
-One sandbox for firefox, wich only allows firefox and pdf-XChange-viewer to run, but only firefox can connect to the internet.
-One sandbox which forces CD and removable media (usb drives) to run apps sandboxed. Nothing can connect to the internet on that sandbox. I also use this sandbox to run unknown software.
    -Data partition locked with Sandboxie.
-All sandboxes delete contents automaticaly when all programs are closed.

    2.- EQSECURE with Alcyons ruleset
-Just in case something slips out of sandboxie.
-ATM I'm wondering if maybe it's overkill.

3.- Firefox with NoScript and AdBlockPlus
    -AdBlockPlus with easyfilters lists
-NoScript with default settings (been looking for the best settings, but havent found much)

    4.- Returnil
    -Always on
-Folders excluded: eqsecure settings, firefox profile, outlook calendar, contacts, etc.

    5.- Secunia PSI
    -All apps fully updated.

    6.- On demand scans
-once a month, give or take a week or two

    7.- Autoplay disabled with TweakUI

ATM the weakest link is Outlook, which isn't under the supervision of any app (except EQS). I haven't been able to set it up correctly with SBIE.
-however, all mail is converted into plain text

Terrible, have so many different security apps to choose from and never can settle on a finite few for very long.

My siggy doesn't say it all but it does offer a little indication of the many combinations available but not one group is set in stone.

    An always evolving project here.

Got to agree there, heres mine anyway:

    Antivirus: Avast Home Edition
HIPS/AntiSpyware: Threatfire (the new version is a vast improvement)
Firewall: Comodo with D+ disabled (D+ is alittle paraniod for my liking) and router
Privacy: CCleaner and PCTools Desktop Maestro

    Others
Firefox with noscript, adblock plus, Phproxy and others.
    Key Scrambler 2.0
    RoboForm Pro
    S & D
    Sandboxie

Thats all i believe i need to keep out any nasties and keep my computer running secure and fast. :argh:

    Another Change:

Something i have shelved for a long time in spite of it's popularity is now found it's way into my security setup now.

No, i haven't defected from EQS just yet, but added and like very much from what i seen of it, ProSecurity! (HIPS)

I'm a very impatient user and the EQS 4.0 delay is haunted me long enough. We'll see how it goes.

    • Nothing

    On-demand:
    • Malwarebytes / SAS - for testing and helping others

    Browser:
    • FireFox w/NoScript, AdBlockPlus
    • IE7 for sites that don't like FF

    Backup:
    • Scripted Windows NTBACKUP

    Firewall:
    • Windows built-in

No Antivirus, No Hosts files, No Live blocking

Been running my PC this way for years and have only infected it maybe twice
but ran restore from NTBACKUP and in under 5 minutes it's a thing of the past.
I store duplicate backups on removable drives that rarely are hooked up together and have
a full Ghost image if I want to restore the entire system.
I do scans every once in a while including an AV scan and aside from cookies they don't ever
    find anything.

I DO NOT recommend this for most users though.
You should use a multi-layer approach to keeping your system and your data secure. I do advocate backing up your data often. :D
