I've been running AVG 7.5 after a bad experience with AVG 8 - it brought my laptop to its knees I'm afraid. My major headache is AVG 7.5 will not be updated and I cannot decide which av to go for
I like Comodo free which I've had a look at - anyone give me their humble opinions on this av please ?
    Thanks

Comodo's AV is fairly new and detection needs much work. Id go for Avira or avast.

Avast & Antivir Personal are my favorite FREE av's.

Try them both out and pick which one you like best.

Both Avira and Avast are picking up a lot of recommendations from various well known bloggers and tech sites. Whichever is best for you is mainly a question of compatibility and style.

I agree, I'm using Antivir on my XP partition and Avast on my Vista partition. I like both. Choose the one you are most comfortable with. Both are good AV's.

I personally have not used it, but do know it is new in year's compared with other product's and it's been a Beta version for quite sometime now.

    Folks,

I really don't know what to say - the original poster posed a specific question and for some reason there is that inexorable draw towards making meaningless comparisons and tossing out one's favorite option - which nobody really needs or asked for. Some posts removed and thread closed.
