I WANT to go to website that NOD32 is blocking!

I have ESS 3.0.556, with all of the latest updates. There is a website that ESS is blocking me from getting to. The only way for me to access the site is to turn OFF the "Web Access Protection", which I know is not a great idea.

I have "whitelisted" the domain URL, but ESS still blocks access to the site.

I am PISSED that ESS has blocked this URL because this is a legit site, and the reason it is being blocked is VERY lame (it has NOTHING to do with porn).

Come on ESS, you can do better than this.

I don't know if it will make a difference with your specific problem, but have you tried 3.0.650?

Hi Guys,

The site that is being blocked is a warez site, and it is one I have belonged to for three years now. This site (I won't give the name) has less problems than most "legit" sites. Because I have been a long standing member many of the people on this site are now friends.

If the site had ANYTHING to do with porn I would not be bitching, but I am a big boy, and if I want to visit my favorite warez site, then that should be my choice. In three years, I have only had one file even attempted to be downloaded with a malicious payload.

NEGATIVE, there is NO software for download from this site.

Come on now guys, what I am complaining about is that there is NOTHING ILLEGAL (at least in California, I have a law degree AND passed the bar) about what they are doing. At least in California, as long as there is NO software for download directly from the site, they are not violating any laws.

Back to the point, why is ESS being the arbitrator of what sites I can have access to that are NOT breaking any laws?

 

How did you actually type the URL and did you use any wildcards ?

If you do not wish to post the URL publically, feel free to PM me the URL and I will attempt to add it to my whitelist to see what it takes to actually let it be un-blocked.

Hi Bubba,

I typed the URL into the "List of HTTP addresses excluded from filtering", and I did NOT use any wildcards. The two jpg pictures attached show the ESS message I am receiving.

I have redacted the URL from the messages, I'm just not particularly comfortable sharing this with strangers, I hope you understand.

 

I can only suggest you attempt to use the * wildcard.

Hi All,

My buddies got me straightened out, and you were REAL close Bubba on this one. The trick was using the wildcards in this manner:

*websitename.com*

You can see the only difference between what you posted and this solution is there is no dot required at the front of the website name.

If it's been blocked as of yesterday it should be one of those warez sites that host hundreds if not thousands of malicious files we have received from there.

I did not check the site as of yesterday, but I know for a fact that this website does not host ANY files at all, good, bad, or in-between.

I don't know how to state it any clearer, but this site DOES NOT host any files at all. In the three years I have been a member of this site there has never been ANYTHING that can be directly downloaded from the site.

The only thing that surprised me is that the excluded list does not work if you do: www.websitename.com

But as Bubba got me on the right path, this will work: *websitename.com*

I want to thank everyone for their assistance, as I last posted, there is a simple answer, just use the wildcards.
