Haven't tried Volatility yet here so thanks for your feedback on that, i normally go the RECENTCY route after setting some choice files to HIGH PERFORMANCE and try to station those in one place.

I will say this, this new UD is "better" IMO, i notice after doing placement defrags that even just refreshing the desktop is much more quicker like in an instant of a flash, plus the overall performance is jumped even better now.

I still have to get the layout.ini either better set or drop the prefetch and this default boot method altogether which i normally do which seems to have noticably shortened reboot times in the past.

    this forum is biased!
ive heard people say its ok to use UD with snapshot programs such as FD and RollbackRX.

    BUT ..

ive heard its not ok to use perfectdisk/diskeeper with them,

    any truth to this?

I have never had any problems using Raxco First Defense with Perfect Disk, or Ultimate Defrag and FD,
but I have never tried RollbackRx so therefore I can not comment on any possible compatibility issues.

On a side note I have still been playing around with Ultimate Defrag and still do not think I have it set
for optimal performance on this computer much like LongView am still playing with the settings lol.

iirc PerfectDisk is ok with FD-ISR, but for RollbackRX no third-party defragger should be used. Instead use its built-in defragger.

FDISR can handle all the defraggers I have tried.
As for Rollback, sure anyone can use a extern defragger if they feel they must for some neurotic reason ;).
But it is a waste of tim
e, it will not do anything to the fragmentation. Anyone who is interested (RTFM) in how Rollback works will very soon realize that. There is a reason why it has its own defragger!

I just downloaded the Trial last night. Analyzed my system using Defraggler, and then UD. Both were close in fragmentation estimates.

Defragged with Defraggler, then analyzed with UD. Still showed a lot of fragmentation.

Defragged with UD, using "respect layout.ini" and set to auto,
defraggler says same fragmentation as before, and UD says 11% which is reserved for MFT and such.

System seems so much more responsive after using UD compared to Defraggler and built-in one which I've been using on vista for some time.

Also did a system cleanup with Baku, not sure if this is has any cause in the speed up.

Because of the way Rollback works, it doesnt create new files with new snapshots like FDISR. RB has its own FAT that no other defraggers understands and they can not do anything with the defragmented files. Please read the manual, it will give you all the answers and is written so even ignorant people like me understands it.. :)

Ok to C.S.J and everyone else with that 12-14% fragmentation that just wont seem to go away I figured it out :cautious:

The problem is this :shifty: UltimateDefrag does not yet have the Ability to defrag Offline files, so therefore the 12-14% is related to the System files, and Page Files that can Only be defraged Via Offline Passes :cautious:

I discovered this purely by chance after I increased my pagefile size to 4606MB, and in doing so UltimateDefrag Imediately told me on the next Analasys that my disk was 46.78% fragmented :ninja: Makes perfect sense, cause when I changed it back, and ran a defrag the 46.78% went Away :shifty: So in Theory were going to have to wait til the Defrag Option is Available and in the meanwhile use something else like PerfectDisk to Flatten out those Offline files ;)
