Is this a free license for life or only good for one year?

See post #2 here for more details on the offer. Not sure about the 1 year thing, but I believe all Returnil licenses are only good for a year. There are posts about this and a believe at least for the free version that you can reinstall it after the year is up. Most of the time a vulnerability is found in a security software in a years time and needs to be updated anyways.

here's the comparison chart for free vs. premium edition of Returnil......

    http://www.returnilvirtualsystem.com/index_files/comparison.htm

Returnil premium ed. is only $24.95 - even if you miss this good deal, might be worth buying anyway...
(i usually lose all my free stuff from GAOTD because i have to reinstall OS time to time)

Save your Bookmarks as ever, at the end of the Session open Returnil-> Advanced Settings->change-> allow all changes
or use the File Manager, allow the Bookmark Folder.
you can also use the Shell extension right click to save the Bookmark Folder to the real Hard disk.

The User Manual is a great Help !!!

thanks a lot it worked perfect.
i only wish there was a permanent setting to save certain folders forever as i'd like to setup this program on novice user computers and not have them fiddle about.

Check the manual mate, maybe you can...

With version 2.0, Returnil supports selective file and folder saving while the System Protection
    feature is ON.

Important Note: The File Manager is designed to be used primarily while the System Protection
feature Mode is changed to ON and in Session Lock mode only when Returnil is installed using
disk caching. It is not available when using Session Lock with memory (RAM) caching. This
restriction is to ensure that large files and folders are saved properly without risk of damage as
well as provide a more secure configuration when not committing content to disk.
    • Add File: Open this link to navigate to files you want to save while using the System
    Protection feature
    • Add Folder: Open this link to navigate to folders you want to save while using the
    System Protection feature
    • Remove: This will remove the selected file or folder from the File Manager List
    • Select All: This will select all files and folders in the list
    • Deselect all: This will deselect all selected files and folders in the list
    • Import List: This option will allow you to import a list in either TXT or XML format with
files and folders you regularly commit to disk. Designed primarily with network
administrators in mind to allow distribution of standard exclusions.
    • Export List: This option allows you to export your current list of exclusions in TXT or
XML format for later use or to establish exclusions for specific profiles.
    • Save List: This will allow you to save a specific list or selective list of items in the File
    Manager.

Is there any way to benefit from this offer anymore? Sorely tempted to just pay for Retunil, seems a good buy.

    Also...
In the comments at the bottom of this article I saw this about how to move your firefox profile to another partition:

"You can also move your Firefox and Thunderbird profiles off the C drive. I recently completed an install for a friend where we set up a RAID-1 array separate to the C drive.

Before we dumped his old machine we used MozBackup to backup his profiles.

We installed Firefox and Thunderbird on the new machine, but did not run them. Instead we installed and ran MozBackup. On the second screen you have the option to create a "New" profile. Here you can give this a different location on your extra drive.

Now your profile is safely stored off your C drive and you don't have to worry about losing it (unless your new drive fails - so you still have to be backup conscious unless using raid or scheduled backup).

I would also recommend making your new profiles folder a "hidden" folder, so you don't accidentally move or delete it!"

    Hope that helps.

Yes, now you can run the System Protection every time and you do not have to reboot if you make changes to your real Harddrive. It's a very userfriendly Step from the Returnil Team.
But use with caution, one mistake and you have Malware on your real Harddrive.
