A little while back I stated that my friend is currently using Acronis True Image Workstation 9.5.8076 with Universal Restore 9.5.8076.

He has a boot cd created as well for 9.5.8076 with Universal Restore.

He also, has older versions of Acronis True Image Echo Workstation such a version 9.5.8072, 9.5.8039 etc... all with a boot cd made up with the correct version of Universal Restore.

The image he has was made using Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1.3718 with Universal Restore.

The problem when he tries and restore his image to another desktop computer with different hardware or a laptop (for the newer laptops you have to add the hard drive drivers for it to work) with the Acronis True Image Echo Workstation 9.5.8076 with Universal Restore (correct version) or any other version of Acronis True Image Echo Workstation with Universal Restore, the image restores fine and when you restart the computer is where the problems arise.

The problems that occur are that it takes a really long time for Windows to startup and it also takes a long time for Windows to shutdown.

    1) Is the problem that he's having that Universal Restore plugin (using the correct verion 9.5.8076) does not work properly for Acronis True Image Echo Workstation 9.5.8076? He's trying to restore his image to desktop computer with different hardware and as well as restore to laptops.

    2) Could the problem be that his image was created using Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1.3718 but he's trying to restore this image onto another desktop computer with different hardware or laptop using the Acronis True image Echo Workstation 9.5.8076 with Universal Restore?

I'm still debating on buying the Acronis product until my friends problems get resolved.

    Thanks!

If you restore an image to a diiferent system Windows will have problems because of all the different hardware. This is not a problem with True Image. Only restore Windows to the computer the image was originally made on.

What does he see in Device Manager? Are all his hardware devices supported (no question marks indicating missing drivers).

What memory resident programs are running? Often these cause shutdown as well as boot up problems. Check msconfig (Google this if it isn't something you have used.) and disable all startup items to see if that solves the problem, then selectively enable them to see which one(s) are causing the problem.

Universal Restore is designed to make the new system with different hardware bootable, but it can't correct installed software problems.

    Hi,

I had my friend install all drivers and when we went into device manager everything was fine.

Also, I had him go into msconfig and disable all startup items as well.

Windows XP still shutsdown and loads very slow.

I know if we do a clean Windows XP install using the Windows XP boot cd everything works fine loading and shutting down.

The only time we see very slow shutting down and startup is when we resotre from an image that was created using Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1.3718. The boot cd we are using to restore is Acronis True Im age Echo Workstation 9.5.8076 with Universal Restore plugin 9.5.8076.

    1) Any other ideas what the problem might be?

    2) Is because we are using the Acronis True Image Echo Workstation 9.5.8076 with Universal Restore 9.5.8076 but the image was created on Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1.3718?

    3) Or is it because the Universal Restore plugin 9.5.8076 for Acronis True Image Echo Workstation 9.5.8076 is not working properly?

    Thanks!

Conventional wisdom says to use matching versions.

Does it keep doing the slow startups even after it has run and been restarted several times? Windows does optimize things.

What about turning on the startup logging/display to see if you can tell what command(s) is taking the time.

He's using matching version on the Acroni Boot CD. He's using Acronis True Image Echo Workstation 9.5.8076 and Acronis True Image Echo Workstation Universal Restore 9.5.8076.

The only difference is his image was created on Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1.3718.

I thought that with the new Acronis True Image Echo Workstation 9.5.xxxx that it can restore image files (tib file) from older version of Acronis such as Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1.xxxx?

How do you check the startup log file?

    Thanks!

Have you tried doing the restore using the CD made from True Image Workstation 9.1.3718?

Yeah he tried using the Boot CD from Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1.3718 with Universal Restore 9.1.3718.

It does work with older harder perfectly.

However, the problem he runs into is when restoring to say a new laptop with the new SATA hard drives that are AHCI because the Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1.3718 with Universal Restore 9.1.3718 boot cd doesn't recognize these newer hard drives.

Acronis True Image Echo Workstation 9.5.8076 with Universal Restore 9.5.8076 does recognize these newer hard drives. He also, manually added the Intel Matrix Storage driver and when Windows XP does boot up but it's really slow and it shutsdown really slow.

He also installed all the drivers and verified it in Device Manager, and also disbaled everything from startup to see if a startup service was causing the slow down.

    Still the problem is there.

As mentioned above Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1.3718 with Universal Restore 9.1.3718 boot cd works great for older hardware, just it doesn't work with newer hardware such as the newer SATA AHCI hard drives.

Acronis True Image Echo Workstation 9.5.8076 with Universal Restore 9.5.8076 does recognize the newer hard drives but after restoring startup and shutdown remanins extremely slow.

I wonder if the problem is with the Universal Restore plugin (correct version being used) for Acronis True Image Echo Workstation 9.5.8076?
    Thanks!
