    Re: AVIRA 8 Release Note

I went ahead and done that. Took me to a maint. screen and I left modify ticked. Then the next screen showed things installed and it showed web guard un checked. So, I checked it. Looks like it installed it. Did I do the procedure correctly? I hope so!

Sounds good. Thanks again guys for your help. When I make that change. Is it okay to leave it on deny access or do you suggest some thing else?

Thanks. What do you guys think of the "Follow symbolic links" option? I see its new and wondering if I should check that as well.

I am using Comodo with Vista home Premium. No problem here with the GRC leak test and Webguard enabled. When running the leaktest Comodo asks to connect to the web just as it should.

Does anyone know when the installer for Avira (free) will be available?

The website only has Avira Classic v7.

    Re: AVIRA 8 Release Note

The GUI is unbearably slow. Takes forever to open now from the tray. That is unacceptable on a fast machine. This is not ten years ago with slow machines.

I have avwsc.exe trying to run every ten minutes. I permanently denied it in ProcessGuard and now PG throws an alert every ten minutes. That is also unacceptable. avwsc.exe is the WSC Helper Tool which should not even be trying to run on my computers as the first thing I do is stomp on and forever disable WSC! With the WSC service permanently disabled why in the world would avwsc.exe try to run constantly?

    I deleted the file.

GUI flickers constantly on reports. Can't look at that at all. I reported all these things in the beta. Nothing has been fixed. :(

Mele, could you describe the flickering a bit more or give a me link to your posts? So far, I don't see this issue on my PC.

On my new laptop (WinXP Pro - 3 GB RAM - 2.5GHZ Intel Centrino- 7200 RPM HD) the GUI does take about 4-5 seconds to fully load, which could be faster. What is it taking for you?

    Edit - now the GUI takes 2.5 seconds. I didn't change anything. o_O :)

You can download and install v7 which should update to v8. As it did on my desktop, where I had v7 installed.

But I to Mele am not 100 percent happy. Until there is a plugin for email and spam, I have asked on versions 7 and 8 for the abilty to right click on the tray icon and be given the option to go straight to mail guard to mark spam. The firewall option is there and this one add on would simplify things.

Emergency service is pretty close to translation. Like something detected by web guard. One more item to add to a certain someones todo list.;)

I believe Mele's talking about the Events page on the UI. I had the same problem just after updating but it was gone after a reboot. Hope that fixes it for you as well...

Using the free version... Is it me or did they remove avira's archive scan from Scan config. There used to be some configs there like 20 recursion depth etc etc. for archive scanning o_O o_O

Just noticed heuristics options gone as well

edit: resolved issues with a clean install :) happy user once again
