Why don't av companies sell 3 user licenses when 1 license key could get entered into a computer a 1000 times and still work? Whats the sense in that? Shouls there not be any potective measures?

There are, against certain types of usage, by at least some vendors.

not f-secure. Try activating a one user license on another computer, a message will pop up on install saying this license is already activated on another machine. If you continue it will deactivate the other machine.

because 3 seprate licenses is better.
if you use one license key it will run out on the same day for three users.
if say you have 1 computer now and thinking of buying example one laptop and another desktop later you start the other two key codes when you buy the new computers and laptops.
so its three seprate boxed license codes and they dont start until you type the code in and get it actovated.

yes, but suppose you needed 3 licenses for three people at the same time, why bother making three liceses? Obviously, norton and mcafee and zonealarm, pretty major compaines, still have not put measures in. If so, some king pirater could sell his one license to thousands of people and the av company could not pirate the key because someone out there has bought it!

Most of companies will disable a key if it is being used by too many people, even if it was bought.

ok, maybe not thousands. But imagine(IMAGINE!) every family had four members and each family ONLY bought 1 license of norton. Then, each family would use 1 license for four, this is not huge amount. eventually, norton would go bankrupt!
I am not trying to cryticise norton, it is just that it is a huge company and still has not put very good protective measures in, i do aknowlege that norton is a very good program! :D

all companies that sell a 2/3/5 user licence, must have something in place to detect fraudulent usage.

also, these licences will be blacklisted with NO chance of getting a replacement.

it is the Users responsibility to protect their own licence, so be warned.

some companies may have the decency to contact you regarding the usage of your licence, and others will simply just blacklist it without contact.

ive seen it done, so the risk is purely yours :)

When you buy a Norton product it let you activate it in three computers. You can't activate more than three computers with a single key (I've verified it with Norton 2008 ).

McAfee is the same way as WLOC. There are no key codes, your subscription is tied to an account that is set up (in my case it is my Windows Live ID). You can only activate 3 computers on each account.

EDIT: If you buy a boxed version of WLOC, it does come with a product key (it is referred to as a "token"). I am not sure on how it works with this type subscription service though.

You can not imagine how many people use Norton McAffee or Kaspersky here in my country without giving a single thought to where the codes or licences come from. i used to be one of them but now i bought a AVG 2 years licence in USA and using it.there is not a single shop or place to buy AV or things like this here in our 28747 square km state in the middle of Europe so it is almost impossible to do it.

    Hi,

If I were the care taker of the Majors (such as McAfee), I may have detailed info regarding pirating keys on my desk, but

Since the company is already providing free services to many institutions/groups, and the house has already made millions/millions from corporate customers, why not lend out some helping hands in Salvation Army style ? This way, more users, more responses(positive and negative). Why would I resort to some counter measure to put out home users' fire(enthusiasm).

Enjoy them while you(customers) can !

what are we talking about in this thread, pirate licences?

i think F-Secure is the only one that has stopped it properly, kaspersky have made big improvements towards it aswell.

the rest, i think are all available via IRC/torrents/P2P.

not very good for the companys.......

I buy only original sw. And AV and Fwl are very cheap or a lot of them are cheap, so can't understand people cracking them. For expensive softwares the problem is little different. But It is not permissible that guys steal money to companies which sell products and in particular when these products costs like a dinner or a couple of good beers. Some examples? F-prot home 29$ annual fee for 5 pcs. (6$ for 1 PC). Bitdefender 24,95$ annual fee. So what's the problem. Here we do not talk about of thousands dollars /euro. How much people spent for dinner or nights ? So why pay for meat and not for sw (in particular if it is so cheap)? Problem shouldn't exist! So company must be much more strong and careful about licensing problem. And about shareholders is it true: they put money in business and they want dividends. Business spent money in developing, marketing, salary of their workers. So they should be much more vigilant. I think crack cheap sw is a nonsense.
In the Old Rome when they capture a thief they cut him his hand away. Think guys think.
But it is only my opinion.
