Could ESS somehow be blocking the Windows Updates? For some reason, none of my updates will install. They get about 2/3 the way through and then lock up and won't install. The only thing I know of that is different is that I'm now using ESS. Thoughts? Thanks

Does the download get to 100%, and is it just the install part that fails? If the download reaches 100% (in fact, anything past 0%), then I think it's unlikely to be a ESS problem.

PROBLEM SOLVED. The problem was with Sunbelt's Counter Spy. I shut it down in Services.msc and the installs worked with no problem.
