I have the "lifetime" license from the Ewido days. I have subsequently updated to AVG AS 7.5. My license is good until Jan 2010. If I did not have a good AV I would seriously consider going to AVG 8, but since I do I do not intend to do so.

When the updates are discontinued for AVGAS 7.5 I will ditch it. I don't think I lost any money over the whole period that I have used the "lifetime" license.

I suppose it would not be considered wrong to give the license to someone who wanted to go with AVG 8 when I remove it from my system. Any body see anything improper about that?

    Regards,
    Jerry

Naw, if your not using it misewell let someone use it who'll probably eventually renew it... Which means profit for Grisoft...

Really dissapointed about losing this anti-spyware... Might have to download Ad-Aware 2009 to fill the void.

Not me though, I'll stick with Kaspersky.

Exactly when(date) will Avg Anti-spyware expires. And when it does will Avg stop receiving updates or will it uninstall by itself.

I understand it expires in December, which is probably when the updates will end. Go to control panel>add/remove and do the uninstall.

    Hi.

As another "separate tool for each job" chap who likes having AVGAS 7.5 (and having tried, then cleaned out AVG:cool: I'm assuming that the very last update (including heuristic.dat) will keep me coasting for a while, but...

Am I thinking too fantastically, or might it not be possible for some clever person to come up with a means of harvesting the required data on new spyware threats and writing them into the requisite format (.dat files) for pasting into the "Signatures" folder of AVGAS 7.5?

    It would extend its usefulness.

I suppose there might be copyright problems in ripping off someone else's threat lists, but surely they exists somewhere in a 'public' database?

I for one would be interested enough to even subscribe to such a service.

My favourite anti trojan is going to die...
And why should I give up my antivirus for AVG? This is a very wrong decision.

Try MBAM at www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php to replace AVG7.5. It seems to be a good one, and if you use it on demand, it's free. I think the paid real time copy is $25. :D

    Hi.

    "Try MBAM..."

    Replied to in "other anti-malware"
(If I had the patience to work out how to link it, I would.)

    Cheers,

What about A-sqaured free for on-demand scanning as a substitute for Avg-antispyware.

Took Malware Bytes anti malware. But, will Ewido's Micro Scanner Die too? (Since I eventually use it)

    I like it, lots.

It's configurable and, most important, controllable.
It can be a bit aggressive, but having it set to report-and-ask is a good feature.

A² free produces too many FPs for my liking.

Once the updates for AVG AS run out, it will be most likely replaced by SAS on my system.
