CA bought Tiny. ZA was bought by Check Point :)
SAS is a general malware scanner. It detects trojans, spyware, adware, rootkits, etc.

Any decent AV has a good detection rate of non-replicative malware.

SAS has earned its bones as a top-notch malware remover, even for stealth and hard-to-clean malware.

That was my reading too : SAS removes malware to the very bone, where other scanners fail. :)

Don't agree with that ''top-notch'',maybe the best in his class but in one specific situation it failed completely. What happens : The other day i got a call from a friend to help him in cleaning his computer loaded with bad stuff,so i thought i will bring him SAS to the rescue, after a full scan SAS presented us with a huge list of his findings, mostly Trojans Fake Drop-180AX,Second Thought installer,Trojan NT Nut 32,Adware 180 solutions,Zango Search and many more.
after isolating and delete and after a reboot we did a next full scan with SAS,and guess what, all the stuff was back, exact the same findings so we did a thirth and fourth scan, same result, exact the same findings !!
At last the Hitman Pro 2 Suite with Ewido micro among others did the job.
After manually deleting stuff in the system32 and related registry entries his system was clean but i advised him to make a hijackthis log and post it over at Castle Cops or Geeks togo forums.
Sure this is one situation and hopefully not representative for the global experience with SAS,but hope you get it now that i'm not that euforious about it. ;)

Before anything we deleted all restore points and scan in normal and safe mode.

Actually with our DDA (Direct Disk Access) technology, we are equally good at removal, and can often remove items (rootkits) that other products won't be able to block and remove.

Are you sure the 2nd/3rd sweep wasn't finding the items in System Restore after the reboot? The infection you are describing sounds like AntiSpyStorm 2008 (livesecuritycenter(dot)com) infection - where it drops a bunch of "fake" infections so it can find them - they are not real executables - SAS cleans them up, but on the 2nd pass, they may be in System Restore - do you have the scan logs, I would be very curious to see them.

    Go Nick:
love the way you track this stuff happenindg and on to it like a wild dog: with nice table manners of course
    :thumb:

It;s a good reminder to us all send the logs of any 'failure' of any app to devs for review then post : tale of what happened and how it was for will be fixed: benefits us all.

If users find systems that are not cleaned by SUPERAntiSpyware, they should always submit a support request and we can run a diagnostic and find anything that was missed. :) It helps everyone.

I have a "lifetime" license for Ewido, and it converted to AVG AS. The information I received is that the lifetime licenses would be good until Jan 2010. If that is still true then I see no reason AVG AS would not update until that time.

    Anyone with other information?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

Tonight i will ask him about the scan logs, maybe he already ditched SAS so its not sure i will get them.
    I let you know asap.

Yes it were the classical fakes, hiyacking the desktop, popups like ''you are infected messages'',opening websites where they give the option to clean the stuff.but admit it was also funny to see almost real live bugs crawling around the desktop.LOL

Main key is restore points,i will ask that he can confirm that again and how he did it.[disable]

I've found just the opposite to be true. Of course, there are some forms of malware that any AS will have problems removing, and sometimes it's necessary to use dedicated cleaners and removers (such as Vundofix) to rid the machine of malware. However, I clean computers on a regular basis, and SAS has been head and shoulders above the others in removing a vast range of malware. I've tried using most of the AV and AS software, and just in everyday experience, the two programs that remove the most malware are SAS and Kaspersky. The others have no problem finding the stuff, but I haven't found any that are nearly as good at removing it (including NOD32, Counterspy, Dr. Web, and others).

Hi Nick, Have to admit that in the whole process of cleaning, the system restore points were active[not deleted],this is against my previous statement.
Its a miscommunication between me and victum, sorry for that !!??
Nevertheless i have the scanlogs,if you like to have it, can you give me link for upload.

though it puzzle me that Hitman pro 2 was able to clean the whole bunch.
