Okay, I understand about the end of life for AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5. Will the AVG 8.0 Antivirus + Anti-Spyware, offer a free version?

    Addendum:

Read a little more and it looks like AVG will still offer a free antivirus - anti-spyware.

You really don't seem to get it that there are a lot of us paid subscribers to AVG Anti-spyware who are perfectly happy with our current anti-virus products and have absolutely no wish to downgrade to AVG anti-virus. Thanks, but no thanks. :gack:

That means that those who paid for "lifetime" subscriptions to AVG-AS, and do not want to use AVG anti-virus, are just out of luck and out-of-pocket. Gee, that's great customer support.

My sentiments exactly! Though I *only* have a 2-year license with most of the time left, I am perfectly happy with KIS, and do not wish to downgrade my AV protection (as I also see it).

I am disappointed as a result of this decision. Therefore I feel that, due to the business ethics of the company, I can no longer recommend their products to people who rely on my opinions/limited expertise.

It's been nice few years, too bad this had to end at the hands of AVG :thumbd:

Like I said when Grisoft first took over ewido and the post was removed by the moderators:

    Grisoft killed ewido !

    A darn shame.:'(

I've been a happy user of ewido/avg as for over two years now but I guess ends here.

My license is going to expire in about 30 days from now and I have no wish to downgrade my antivirus protection from eset to avg just because a malware scanner.

I may just skip the whole spyware/malware altogether now as I can't seem to find another product like ewido that works so well and efficient with all of my other security apps. Plus, I use online scanners for suspicious files and from my experiences, they've been pretty reliable.

That being said, I am still very disappointed and mad at grisoft for doing this. As a company, it's not true to its words and betrayed its customers.

Frankly, I don't really care if Grisoft wants to take their last piece of software off my PC, but I'm going to make this a lesson for them by telling all of our clients not to purchase/renew their AVG license any more, whether through a reseller or not. There are always tons and tons of alternatives out there at any given time, and they are just going to work as well (maybe even better) as AVG products. The clients won't even notices it in most cases.

True that this is only a very insignificant effort but I'm sure that I'm not alone.

You are definitely NOT alone, rahx. I will no longer put AVG branded products on client computers nor even recommend them to clients, and I certainly won't be putting them on my own computers.

My AVG Anti-Spyware expires on August 9th, 2008. That's the end of it as far as I'm concerned. ESET NOD32 is my antivirus and, like you, I'm not going to "trade down" just to get an anti-spyware product. NOD32 is an antivirus - antispyware product, and I can always use other anti-spyware scanners "on demand," such as MBAM.

The topic is AVG Anti-Spyware...but just a word of caution, while $19.95 is a great price for Lifetime updates, let's say they last for four years, that's about $5.00 a year, for SAS professional but ....well you have been warned. :ouch:

This is not a slam against SAS folks. Suites are the wave of the future. Built or Bought it is the way it is. :(

I don't buy "lifetime" subscriptions, nor do I recommend them to clients. I've seen too many so-called lifetime subscriptions go unhonored when the product is bought out by another company. Or, the hapless subscription holder is told, "Well, yes, you had a lifetime subscription to that version but this version isn't covered by that subscription."

My AVG AS subscription ends in September. I'm glad I didn't go for 2 years last September. :D I am using AVG as an on demand AS to supplement my Superantispyware which I run real time. I'm not so sure I need the supplemental on demand, so I don't know if I will replace AVG with something else in September. But in the event that I do want an on demand, can any one recommend a good one? I've gotten some great tips here in the forum, and I know folks here are using only the best apps. I definately won't be upgrading to the AVG Suite, although I'm sure it's a good one. I prefer the layered coverage, and am using NOD32 AV. :)

I agree with you! But they should keep AVG AS as it is and build on it as it's good for what we want and need! Nothing more or less!

    Right?

    Cheers,

SAS ($20) and MBAM ($25) are compatible with other popular AV's/AS, use less system resources, and IMO have better detection/removal capabilities than AVGAS. They also offer a lifetime subscription, a free version, and excellent technical support. Granted some may have been bummed by Ewido lifetime model, but at least you'll typically get more than one year out it vs. other software that requires $20-$50 for a yearly renewal. in the end I am really sad to see AVG 86'ing AVGAS as a standalone app and integrating it into AVG 8.0

    Thanks for the info.

I live in Canada and MBAM is available at $26.49 CAD while SAS @ $29.49 (doesn't say which currency so I'm assuming it's in USD).

I'll give MBAM a try I guess and see how it works.

Contact AVG support if you need code replacement. No offense, but this is not a place asking for pirated software.

In my opinion MBAM is a very promising AS, and a good ( or even better ) substitute for AVG Anti-Spyware :)
