Good deal for a so so product

 

It says the retail is $15 on GAOTD and at the agnitum site that is the 6 month license so it may only be for 6 months of updates. I'm happy with what I'm running, but I figured others here may have fun with it.

Edit: I checked the readme and it is for 6 months worth of updates. As usual, anything from GAOTD must be downloaded and installed during the day of the promotion.

I installed it to give it a try but it refused to coexist with mcafee even after I disabled access protection and on-access scanning like it asked. It wouldn't register that I had done it. Since it wouldn't work, it wouldn't install with the malware mode functional which made it pointless.

 

Today, I ran Outpost Antivirus Pro v6.0.2292.253.0490

It found a malware "Packed/MoleBox" in Jesterware DVD Ripper Professional, which is a false positive.
PC Tools AntiVirus also found the same so called malware on 2008.01.17 and it was also a false positive according Wilders.
All the rest was so called "clean" for what it's worth.

BTW: I didn't know that Agnitum had an AV scanner. So their suite is finally complete now.

gaotd is a good site, that info is wrong.

 

Does that mean the detection rate is the same as other virusbuster av's or do they add their own definitions?

 

Perhaps mcafee doesn't want you getting other security programs for free?

 

The site is fine. They have also offered other good programs in the past such as DefenseWall, Prevx and Returnil. I also downloaded the file and scanned it with Avira, SuperAntiSpyware and A-squared and it was clean.

I have used GAOTD forever and it has always been a clean site.

 

I downloaded a piece of software from GAOD a few months back. The
software required registration. I used my correct address, but
intentionally misspelled my name in an odd way. Not long
after, I began getting computer related advertising in the
snail mail, with the incorrect spelling of my name. No big deal, but
that may be sort of thing they flagged.

I got a freeze the setup didn´ t finish.

Is it usual that grpconv.exe is started during installation?

 

is this antivirus a good one compared to avast? or to be honest not really?

I didn't try Outpost, but I would keep Avast.

Outpost AV as a single product is very new (March 1 and hasn't yet been proven. Their AV forum only has 3 threads and I couldn't find any information specific to the AV in their knowledge base. If you rely on your AV for protection then stick with Avast.

 

oh no go, virusbuster is not really good but probably still better then comodo antivirus..

Humbug! Its the ad downloads that caused the red, not GOTD! Mcafee told me that.

 

Well, as you know, even if an AV uses another AV's engine, they are usually different.
Take bullguard for instance.

 

Well they could really use a better engine.

Is it as buggy as people have been claiming it to be? Does the HIPS component make up for the shortfall from the virusbuster engine?
