Does Samurai System-Hardening install trojan/adware?

I ran AVG AS to ensure system is clean from spyware and was surprised that it found "adware" & "trojan" installed by Samurai. Are those false positives? Is it similar to tools that remove certain riskware being detected as infected with that badware since they contain the "signature" to remove it?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Those registry entries are legit and a part of Samurai's hardening. You can use regedit and look it up yourself, the list is a bit long.

 

Thanks for the reply. I should scan it with other AntiSpyware/AntiMalware and even look into it manually just to make sure it is nothing more than a false positive. Samurai is a great tool but is now somewhat outdated. Anyone else running Samurai experience this? Thanks again for your comments.

 

No sorry. I see you have KAV running? What does KAV say?

 

I have not yet ran a full system scan with KAV. Maybe I should. Is there any way to just scan the registry with KAV? I have been discouraged to run a full scan because it takes forever to complete.

 

Samurai, although outdated is my favorite for quick fix hardening especially if you not into applying patches from microsoft. I stopped applying patches after the initial launch of Service Pack 2 and opted for other solutions, 3rd party tools and personal tweaks.

 

avg has similar fp's with spyware blaster blocking list.

 

@lodore, Thank you for your reply especially in confirming that false positive also happen in other hardening tools such as Spyware Blaster.

@yankinNcrankin, Samurai is one the best and ranks high on my list. I use Samurai for the same reason that you stated (to close down security holes since I do not use Windows updates either. ) I must say that as a free protection tool, Samurai is very feature rich and very effective.

@Sjoeii, Thanks for your reply. I did not find a need to scan the files since the registry "tweaks" are false positive. Even though it was not needed this time, KAV is a light-weight, nice malware detection and removal tool.
