I've recently tried to restore my C drive partition. TI7, 8, and Segate (TI 10) have all asked for a password. No problem, except I never used a password for the backup. My last backup (data partition), I did use a password.
I think my problem began when I used a uninstaller (ZSoft) to uninstall a program. It went crazy and deleted many files unrelated to the program I was deleting. Since that time, I have had other computer issues.

What operating system are you using?

    Where is your backup stored?

Did you try all the above versions of TI by booting from the Recovery CDs?

I'm using XP Home with SP2. I have tried using all of the above versions with a recovery CD. I ran into the same issue of a password being required! My backup is stored on a separate internal hard drive.

    Sequence of events:
    1. Backup of system partition (C:\), no password entered
    2. Backup of data partition (G:\), no password entered
    3. Second separate backup of data partition (G:\), password entered
    4. C: \ and G:\ defragged
    5. Tried to uninstall Returnil with ZsSoft Uninstaller, and it went crazy and deleted extra files (?)
    6. System restore done on C;\ drive
    7. Tried to restore system partition, and couldn't because it asks for password!!!!

Have you tried doing the restore when booted from the Rescue CD using the same version TI CD that the backup was created with?

I believe I have, but I have three restore CD's. I'll try all of them and let everyone know the results tomorrow!

Well........, I forgot I was going to check on my restore CD's, to see if I was able to restore from any of them. I did a backup last night of my System partition with a new one. So, I guess we can conclude this problem closed!!!! Note: All of my restore CD's (3) were the Trueimage 7, so that's probably what my problem was.:D :D

Glad you resolved some of your problems. Remember, should you need to replace your system drive or upgrade your drive, the best backup to have is one which is a "disk" backup and this type includes all partitions (both hidden & diagnostic) in the backup.

Thanks for clarifying that. No wonder you were getting some odd results.

As Grover said, be sure to make regular full system backups so that a major corruption or bad hard drive won't leave you having to reinstall everything from scratch.
