    Hello;

I am currently using Bit Defender 2008 for my AV software. When it auto updates, it locks up my PC for about 30 seconds. Also I now think it is making my machine freeze and hang when using other software.

I am interested in purchasing NOD32 version 3.0. Does the auto update slow the PC down or lock it up. I have never heard of ESET before so I am looking for user thoughts and pros and cons.

Thanks very much for your help!

I have been using NOD32 v2.7 for a year and a half and I think it's the best thing since sliced bread. No issues. I have just installed v3.624 and it is just humming away. A few of the initial v3 builds were buggy, but they have eliminated the bugs nicely with this new build. Actually when you said you never heard of ESET it made me remember that I only learned about it while reading forum threads. What turned me on is that it updates definitions a few times a day, as opposed to maybe every day or three with other AVs. ;)

Thanks for your good info. Do you notice a system slowdown or stall when NOD32 does an update?

Pros: It's good at scanning and not even using 50% resources at all, which means you can run games/other programs and not notice a different unlike other programs. Updating is fast not slow down. The scanning process i will say not to slow it's fast than other vendors.
Cons: The ekrn.exe holds about 42k-50k resource usage even when doing nothing it monitor everything comes through the port. The setting can be tricky if your new, but not to bad.

I hope that helps. It is just my opinion, so don't take my word for it.

Pro : NOD32 is known for its low foot print, rare false positive, fast scanning... NOD is always on the top of serious AV comparatives, like Virus bulletin, 48 consecutives VB100% award since may 1998, a record.

The new v3 is easier to set, have a better look too.

Very good quality AV at a low cost. Very good heuristic, fast update and, sometimes, 2-3 virus db update a day

    have a look to this....
    http://www.eset.com/products/compare-NOD32-vs-competition.php

Cons: if you have a recent pc, you wont care about ekrn process that consume a lot of cpu ressources sometimes. Not easy to close when it needs to do a clean install of software or something else. V2.7 is better for you if you have a slow pc

Just try v2.7 and v3 and enjoy

    Bill,

I quit using Bitdefender because it slowed my computer too much. It did provide good protection however.

NOD32 is a great AV/AS, it's very lightweight (real-time, updating, etc.) and I never notice it's presence. It and avira are the two lightest av's I've used and trust. You can't go wrong using NOD32.

Like others said, try the trial version for 30 days and you'll end up buying it.

Really here how it explain here:

    http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/6826/21675666jx5.png

It jumps around 30 to 42k then sometimes 50k. And nothing is checked in the setting everything off, no scanning and no other things doing not even on the net when i took that a minute ago. I guess we have different situation then hmmm...

Bill, that's the best thing to do, try it on your PC. Asking someone else if it slows down their PC isn't going to give you a definitive answer as to whether it will slow down your PC. Everyone's PC is different.

After NOD updates for me NOD uses 90+% of the CPU for around 5 seconds. That's on a PC with AMD 4000+, 2gig RAM, Raptor HD and windows XP home with all updates.

I'd add that the cpu utilization during an update will be lowered in one of the future versions (most likely in the next one, but I can't tell for certain yet).

NOD32 is the best AV , precise , fast ,proactive and lightweight but it has some weak point just like some of script viruses undetected (most of them are VBS).
have few false positive for some in-house developing software (Starcat) and
too less virus information on the official web site - -".
