Rollback Rx Stuffed Up My PC...

Now my 200Gb Hard Drive has 60Mb free space before it had like 120Gb free.

    Defragging makes that 24Gb.

According to Rollback the snapshots take up 300Mb.

I was just installing truecrypt and now my pc is definetely on its last legs.

(Insert Swear Word Here) you HorizonDataSys and Rollback. :thumbd: :thumbd: :thumbd: :ouch: :ouch: :ouch:

    A similar post here dmenace.

Never used RX but would it be possible to boot from a cd like Paragons which can mount the drive and delete any leftovers?

I've used Rollback Rx versions 7 & now 8 without having a single problem.

    1) It has been an ideal Uninstaller, as it has helped me to get rid off
some really 'stubborn' programs that even Total Uninstall could remove.
For example, when uninstalling ZA Pro I ended up with a Black Screen Of Death
(many users have experienced it with ZA), it was Rollback Rx that restore my PC.

    2) It has been an ideal Anti-Malware solution, as I can restore my system back to
a partition-clean Snapshop created on the day I formatted my desktop.
When some greatly-advertised AV/AS scanners failed to removed some heavy malware
I got (BTW, I am very risky surfer...), it was Rollback Rx that perfectly recovered my PC.

If a particular program didn't work for your setup, it doesn't mean that it is useless
and must be turned down as a solution to other users.
Like some users, you experienced problems, whereas I and some other users,
have experienced NO issue with Rollback Rx.

I tried Returnil, DeepFreeze, ShadowDefender and etc.
No one offered me the features and flexibility of Rollback Rx
since the good-old FD-ISR is no longer available.
Besides, aren't problems associated with Returnil, DeepFreeze, ShadowDefender, too?

You can't compare these simple boot-to-restore softwares with RollbackRx or FDISR and you can't compare RollbackRx with FDISR either.

I know dear Erik, I know.
The problem is that after FD-ISR -in the old version- is no longer available,
    I haven't found something better than Rollback/EAZ-FIX.
As you said, the rest programs are simply Boot-to-Restore ones.
If you can propose me another software, I'll be glad to give it a try.

Sorry, me neither man and I'm also looking, but I can't find anything than clones of RollbackRx on the internet, like Eaz-Fix, AyRecovery, Radix Reload, ... and Roxio's BackOnTrack 3 Recovery Suite (not based on RBRx). :D

My advice : keep on using RollbackRx and I keep on using FDISR. :)

I suggest that you take a new snapshot and delete the former ones with the same contents and the ones which takes most inproper space...then there is a chance that the new snapshot with the same content will have a more normal size...then defrag the snapshots...atleast worth a try...worked for me with similar on earlier version...

Exactly! This is the way to deal with Snapshots having the size of 300 MB (<=What a heavy load...:D)
Rollback/EAZ-FIX/AyRecovery are all Instant System Recovery applications.
With your Data volume (=140 GB if I understood correctly), you need a Backup solution (if you haven't one...).

    Thanks everyone for your replies!

I've deleted the snapshot of my system that was 59Gb large and defragged existing snapshots, but still not all the space has been recovered.

Still waiting for reply to my ticket at Horizon Data.

    Ok here is current situation:

I believe creating a new TrueCrypt volume somehow corrupted rollback.

    See error msg attached.

    My HDD has 2 partitions: C, H.

    C should have 117Gb - 61.8Gb = 55.2Gb free BUT it only has 24Gb

H should have 69.1Gb - 0Gb = 69.1Gb free BUT it only has 30.2Gb (it is empty yet space is missing)

All snapshots defragged several times and deleted like you said bar the baseline and current snapshots.

    See image in next post.

RollbackRx AND EAZ-FIX both suffer from compatibility issues with other software programs especially wher concerns anything to do with the Disk like Third-Party Defraggers and any other disk cleaner, and i dare say an Encryption Program can make for some issues like reported here too.

At least thats been my experience with EAZ-FIX. After doing a routine disk cleaning of already deleted material one day with a small app named RESTORATION, my disk loaded up and completely ran out of space due to the huge Temporary File which EAZ-FIX apparently doesn't ignore. I venture to say RollbackRx acts the same with regards to these utilities.

I prefer to CONTROL my disks destiny, some programs like EAZ-FIX/RollbackRx are designed to assume some of that control with their own defragger for one, and choke up the disk when using such utilities for another.

That's why although i finally accepted the concept of operating with snapshots with it from a single baseline snap, but i've lost confidence in their limitations.

Thank Goodness, theres no such problems like this with the Genuine FD-ISR though sadly it's no longer marketed with the same feature set it once had.

Sorry to hear about that have not heard saying ''on last legs'' in quite some time and brought back memories hmmm.I can tell ya is unfortunate you chose RBRX because i have had EAZ-FIX installed three different times and no blips after uninstall.

There has been much discussion about RBRX and EAZ-FIX being the same. All i know is EAZ-FIX caused no problems. And many more informed members at Wilders seem to prefer EAZ-FIX.One last thing i tried RBRX when being developed way back when. And it trashed my machine so i am rightly less enthusiastic about RBRX than i am about EAZ-FIX which created no grief.

    Just putting that out there.

On second thought your problem missing HD Space i was kinda wondering about that.I always felt i was missing a little HD Space after uninstall how do i know all snapshots are deleted and not just stuck on drive?? somewhere in snapshot form ...anybody.

    Hello Tonto

I really can't find an accurate familiararity between the two either although some users have pressed this issue hard that they are both the same, but i have experienced the same as you.

EAZ-FIX is presented nothing at all in the way of problems for me whereas RollbackRx also trashed my system and caused enough concern that i had all but given up ever expecting anything stable from it again.

In retrospect, EAZ-FIX is worked flawlessly and never inhibited my system with any such issues like that.

    Thanks everyone for your help!

I've never heard of EAZ-FIX... Initially I wanted to use FD-ISR but since the good previous version wasn't available I decided to use Rollback thinking it must be superior.

I did manage to fix the problem of the occupied free space! It goes like this - contray to all recommendations (Don't uninstall rollback) I uninstalled Rollback. Upon reboot it carried out a "Disk Cleanup" and now all the gigabytes of missing free space returned. Drive H:\ had 69.1 gb free not 30.2 when using rollback.

So using rollback you have to be cautious. You could start a chain reaction accidently and before you know it you have no hard disk space left, windows crashes and rollback throwing out error messages saying it can't do anything! Oh the irony - the disaster recovery software is the disaster.

Rollback definetely has easily exploitable vulnerabilities. If I could accidently cause such chaos makes me wonder how much damage specially written malware could do.

Software like EAZ-FIX, AyRecovery etc. just use the patent technology
developed by Horizon DataSys for Rollback Rx.
Some users call EAZ-FIX, AyRecovery etc clones of Rollback Rx.

For comparisons/tests, I have used -ALL- these programs without a Single problem.

-How some users have problems -ONLY- with Rollback Rx, whereas,
they have no problem with EAZ-FIX, AyRecovery etc.
(all use the same core-technology of Horizon DataSys)
has been a mystery to me.

Some users cannot forgive Horizon DataSys for stopping FirstDefense-ISR.
    Guys, I fully understand you.
However, it is not fair to turn down Rollback Rx because of Horizon DataSys.
Especially when, EAZ-FIX, AyRecovery etc. use a technology borrowed from Rollback Rx.

My own read, based on a look at the install files, is the opposite with respect to origin.

    Dear Blue,

Excuse me and with all the respect for you:

    1) Did Horizon DataSys offer its patend to EAZ-FIX and AyRecover. Or Not?

    2) Was it the other way round?

-I have used/compared Rollback Rx with EAZ-FIX and AyRecover
    without seeing any problem/difference.
    -How
EAZ-FIX and AyRecover are flawless, whereas Rollback Rx is not,
is something I cannot explain, too.
I read the respective thread. Some people are wondering the same too.

    P.S.:
    1) When some use Evidence Eliminator, CyberScrub or similar products to clean their PCs, and in turn,
destroy the Snapshots don't expect from Rollback Rx/EAZ-FIX/AyRecovery to function properly.
The same holds for using other programs that compress/encrypt data, and in turn, affect the proper
    function of Rollback Rx/EAZ-FIX/AyRecovery.
    2) In the Advanced Tasks >System Security, Disable malicious direct disk IO: the default option is/remains UnChecked.
    3) Even though a Command Prompt Line allows to use the DiskDefragmenter of Windows, I would Not suggest it.
That's why the Built-in Defragmention exists.

The two vendors are obviously close collaborators.

See Operating system and data protection patent to Shen et al.

See also Stored memory recovery system, which is in the application phase.

As Blue said regarding the originators.

Who holds the licensing rights is unclear, but at a minimum, Eaz-Fix, AyRecovery, Radix Reload and Rollback use the same technology.

Whereas its simple as usual to immediately crucify Rollback for this particular incident,it is highly likely or even certain that all of the others would have reacted in the same way under the same circumstances.
Lets not go down the road of which clone is better once again-its seriously boring and been done to death.:thumbd:
Its been determined time after time that Rx and EF are the same, except that possibly different versions were bought out within a short time of each other.

edit; in my experience there is no reason to attempt running any defragger other than the Rx one.
Prior to installing Rx,I defragged normally, installed and ran Rx for about 10 days.
Then I uninstalled Rx and checked the frag. levels-they were in fact, close to that after the first normal defrag ie little fragmentation had taken place outside the Rx system.

Does anyone know if Rollback Rx is compatible with Vista's BitLocker?
