Has anybody tried to keep v2 and v3 installations in pararell ?

My question as in subject.
The v2 version without having set the option "start with windows".
Just to have a solution for an av scan from foreign OS.
With v3 that's not so simple as with v2 it was.

 

Nobody seems to have taken the plunge in this direction - probably, because the default installation directory for both V2 and V3 is ESET.

 

The question is WHY you want two version of nod working

I dont see any reason to do that

 

The 2.x one you could simple copy to USB drive/disk and run under BartPE or
similar. That means no one file locked by running system.

 

there is a v2 portable usb and works great as on demand scanner, without any problems or conflicts with v3 running real time .

if u want another option for your usb try clamwin portable, its for free.

 

I use nod32 v3, but i have nod32 v2 on my flash drive and it work perfectly. I have nod32 as an on-demand scanner and kaspersky as a real time protection. It did cost me a lot, but my computer is well protected and had never had a virus for over 5 years now. So to make them parallel it is possible just that you might have to put one on on-demand and one on real time like i did.

 

What is the best way to get v2 portable ?
With upgrade to v3 I don't have that installation.
Just to download the v2 installer like for regular installation
and then install it to different folder than that one containing now v3 installation ?

One AV is enough, both are the best available, you are well protect with Kaspersy or NOD32, you dont need both of them. Your cost is high and for nothing, you are not MORE protect at all

How good is the av protection and cleaning in case of files locked by running OS ? Question relates to v.3.

Files locked by OS always there. NOD showed them, others AV dont. Period.

 

Does it mean, the v3 one can scan all files being opened by running OS/applications ?
Something like anti-stealth mode in v2.
Does this mode still exist/is used by v3 ?

If yes, how good is such a facility of v3 in terms of finding and of infections ?

The level of protection is supposed to be better in v3 because nod is like a proxy by ekrn.exe. The v2 is winsock base.....

For anti-stealth, i dont know, protection is surely the same or better in v3.

I let someone else answer about that, it is too technical for me.

 

You can see yourself now, what the v2 one is good for.
One can copy to USB stick, start under BartPE or similar just by invoking
from command line, and scan your whole disk. No files are locked neither by running system nor by started applications.
With v3 it is not possible. Have tried some month ago.

Nobody could state following: one doesn't need v2 at all cause v3 has good protection/scan facilities regarding locked files.

 

Do you think some windows files are never scan by nod ?

This locked files are surely scan BEFORE windows startup and locked after....... Dont think they are NEVER scan at all ! Have a look to Scheduler task

I see locked files in v2.7 scan too.

 

That's only a part of whole history.

Nod knows some windows files to be scanned while booting.

But what about thousands of files locked by third party applications, different background processes and others ?
Nod has no chance to know all those.
However, they all are locked by running apps and are not scanable.

Therefore v2 was a great tool with its command line invocation.

 

I am not a security nerds, but i am sure these files are scan in a way or another, at startup or while closing windows. If there is a open door somewhere, and specially the one you are talking aout, be sure hackers will use it. I read a bit about security, never heard about locked files infection or so......

 

Can anybody say how the v2 version can be installed in parallel to v3 ?
In order to have stand-alone / portable virus scanner.
