help on my wireless connection

Well, I have no idea how to really use a wireless router at ALL, and to be honest I saw some boys outside the house using my connection with their PSP's, and I disconnected the wires and they left Anyways, like I have no idea how to use the firewall in it, I have no idea what a wep key is or how to input it. I have tried really hard to try to connect my DS wirelessly, but to no luck. So please tell me how to secure my connection so that neighbors and kids acroos the street can stop using my connection, thanks.

I suggest that you use WPA or WPA2 for better security if at all possible. WEP can be easily cracked in minutes.

 

Thanks for the link, I will look into it. But, I have no option in my computer to mess with the settings of the router, nothing at all, so that's why I am confused.

 

Did you not get a setup CD with the router?

You normally access the settings with your browser, but I guess you need the IP address of the router. You could try the maker's website for that.

 

It did come with a cd, do i need to install that on my computer since it has internet connection too? I have not installed the cd on the computer since the wireless does work, but like I said I have no option to mess with anything from the router.

 

If you just autorun the CD all should become clear, I would expect that to be the way to configure the router.

 

What is the make and model of the router? The CD is an option. I prefer manual configuration.
with most routers this gives you more options. Some where in the literature that came with it should be a default IP #. Launch your browser and enter the IP into the address bar. This should bring you to the router log-in web interface. The literature should also have the default pass word to use to access the configuration interface.
As mentioned, if your router and whatever device support WPA then use it. All other previous forms of wireless security are easily cracked. Be sure to change the default password as well. Write it down and keep it in a safe place.
