Symantec Endpoint 11 has incorporated the Sygate firewall technology and is quite different. I am running it now, but have not yet played much with the firewall portion of things. Perhaps they will do the same with the NIS line in the future as well...

Was that hardware clock problem ever fixed? Might be time to start working on it. Used to be that the Unix clock wrapped in 2036 or 2038 and the IBM mainframe clocks in 2042.

It had to do with the number of bits in the date/timestamp field and the date chosen to start incrementing from.

Never have been a fan of Symantec products, especially their suites. However, they've been taking strides of improvement over the years, and I can only imagine (and hope) that they continue to do so.

Do you mean the frequency of def updates? Every company will always try to release better defs., but when talking the frequency, it would be that you get what you otherwise would get later faster. Well, it sure would be better ofcourse, but I'm not sure that is connected to the development of a new version of the software, but more of the decisions they make in general.


Myself would vote for an improved Network Map, e.g. the most major changes would be applying strong encryption for wireless networks if not already done and remote management and not just "Hey look! That PC is going bad!". For example, say that you're out working, and you see that one of the PCs back home has turned red. Now you can't do anything to fix that remotely which would be what's useful, but in this case get home to even be able to fix it. As it's now, it's not of very high value really, and I'm sure how it looks could be improved as well. - Not that it looks bad now, but it can always be improved. PCMag mentioned lack of detail in their review of Norton 360 2.0, and I'm pretty sure the Network Map-feature doesn't difference between the two.
- If it was improved, it would be "worthy" P) of running full-time to ensure your network is secured and running as it should once you've set it up for monitoring.

Then I would like to see AntiBot integrated as a component of the suite - either from scratch, or as an add-on pack.

I also agree about seeing the history of what updates that have been applied and not just when you run the task manually. I wonder why it's not already implemented.


Minor changes would be improvement to the help, e.g. gramatically and comfortability, for example back and forward buttons. Minor because it's not the most important function and is still functioning acceptable, but it could be greatly improved.


EDIT: Oh, I almost forgot a very important thing (or atleast to me); support for scanning password protected archives/files by asking for the password when scanning manually. Now the files might contain malware while you're not able to scan it straight away since it doesn't support it.

read the technical articles on symantec site and also old threads with regards to needing to reinstall live update due to not working properly.

Hmmm.....you must refer to LU, years ago or something?! I've never had any issues with LU....and it's on 40+ comp's on my work....never ANY problems, neither at own comp's or on friends and familys....or maybe I'm just being lucky?

 

maybe it has improved i dont know.
reading the thread about live update failing with nis2008 a few days ago made me think LU still is as bad as it used to be.

unless Kaspersky has fixed that little problem with check disk I suggest stop picking on other AV's...

 

symantec has had live update for years and it has always had problems.
im not picking on symantec im giving constuctive criticism hoping symantec will finely replace LU with a better update system.
i will just say that that issue is being fixed in kav version 8.

 

How about including behavior detection/blocking abilities from Antibot and sandbox technology from Altiris?

 

not being biased, but symantec has always been prone to errors...
