TDS-3 + $$$(how much) = TDS-4  :p [I haven't even got to my first oil change with TDS-3 and it is going to be supplanted?]

    Hi SSG,

As far as I know, the upgrade is free when you already own TDS-3.
    So don't worry!  :)

Hi Wade and Gavin!!...This is JAS Technologies :)
I figure TDS-4 will support XP Pro? As you know I am still testing TDS-3 with it now and everything seems to work except the "greetings". And I understand 4 will show via hi-light ect. what "Line in registry has changed" to make it easier to locate? Any help in testing let me know. Thanks, JAS

sflag, that is correct. After you install TDS-3 and "reboot" then locate the shortcut in "Programs" and right click it. Choose properties then "Compatibility" and click on the check box then select "Run as Windows 2000 Pro" and then reboot. I also run Wormguard, NOD32 and Outpost Pro. They all work great together. Thanks, John

sflag, yes I am running XP Pro. After you install TDS-3 reboot. Then go to Programs and find the .exe icon and right click it. Choose the "Compatibility" tab, place a check mark on the box and select Run as Windows 2000 Pro from the drop down menu then click Apply. Let me know. Thanks, JAS

      JAS  ,

I  have never think about using the XP's  compatibillity mode(or compatibility magic for me ) with TDS3 or WormGuard . If you have time , give me your opinion if TDS3 or WormGuard would conflict with the others programs I am using : TrojanHunter ,Pestpatrol and NIS2002 .
JAS , as I was a W.ME user before I have ever been frustraded regarding TDS3 or WG  .
                  Thank you very much indeed

They all work fine on XP Pro for me and others I have installed them onto. I build systems and do allot of testing of security and these are the Best in my humble opinion. OP Pro is a RC-1 and they have a "todo" list for the full release including most of AtGuard's toys and a few others. Any questions just let me know. Thanks, JAS

P.S. I would send ME to Osama, lolol...hehehe

:p I've been running XP Pro for a while now and use both TDS3 and Wormguard with no apparent problems. I don't run it in compatability mode at all and haven't found an error yet.

        Hello  again JAS ,

I have tried  3 times with WormGuard ( XP home edition ,compatibility mode Windows 2000 --- mine does not have 2000 Pro option ) . Everytime  " WGUARD  ERROR ( Oxc0000005 ) " . I have even tried with compatibility mode Windows 98 . Same error .I will have to wait their upgrade to version 4 of both products .

One more time  your help was appreciated ,
                                                                              sflag
P.S. : I   believe that where Osama is now ME  or 2000PRO  should  have  no use to him ... very hot place .

    Off topic:

Wormguard-3 can have a possible conflict with an earlier version of NIS, it is a known issue. I don't know whether later versions of NIS go fine along with it.
I expect the upcoming Wormguard-4 will not have that problem, but let's have patience and wait and see.

    Hi JAS,
    As far as XP:
MS included another kind of speech technology in that, the SAPI 5 engine, which is not a simple upgrade of the SAPI 4 included in older Windows versions and doing all that from the 4 plus new extras, but a complete new technology.
The friendly greetings you can have back, as these speech engines are among others used in the MS Agents technology and it is the same TDS used for the friendly greetings.
The Speech sapi 4.0a sdk (december 6, 2000) and spchapi can now be found for download at
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ReleaseID=26299
    SAPI4SDK.exe - 8,023 Kb
    SAPI4SDKSUITE.exe - 40,001 Kb
    spchapi.EXE - 848 Kb
    Downloading now at 50k/sec
You can try to get the little spchapi.exe, which is already in the TDS you have as well, just needs activation.
I'm not quite sure what will be the effect on other speech functions in XP if you do.
We'll have to dig for that info on the MS sites and their speech engines news groups. (microsoft.public.speech_tech and speech_tech.sdk)
A little word of warning: in Win2000 and XP MS built already a new MSAgent technology, which is more advanced and different from the older ones, so you don't need to download any of those other steering parts from their MSAgent site, in case you ever get enthusiastic about using agents. Just new agents characters just in case.

Hope you get TDS speaking! :)
Not sure what effect this point will have on TDS4 and the different Win versions.

    WG4/TDS4, 100% XP compatible

TDS4 and WG4 are both 100% XP-compatible. The conflicts that some people were experiencing with WG3 were due to the type of execution hook being used, a hook which works at the user-level, and relies on a few Microsoft components (which is essentially where the problem lies as there's only so much we can do with 3rd party components).

WG4 and TDS4 both utilise new kernel-level hooks that we've been working on since June 2001. With most of what we needed to do undocumented, a lot of research and 'stab-in-the-dark' testing has been required but our efforts have finally paid off and we've now completed the hooks - a VXD driver for Win9x/ME, a SYS driver for NT/2K/XP (although the XP method is slightly different), and a VDM hook for 16-bit executions such as command.com. In other words, every type of execution is being hooked on all Windows operating systems at the lowest possible level and at very low risk of issues of incompatibility.

But there is still much work to be done ...

It have good speech recognizion and text to speech that works good. So now I can type a joke and have it tell it to me, lololol..Oh, sorry but it is 02:16 here and I am still building servers and repairs from other states. Thanks, JAS

So you did get the greetings to work? Heya, congratulations. Was it the way i wrote you several messages ago or other way? Like to know, to be able to tell the right trick to other users as well of course!

You might like to add this little SS3 script in the SS3 editor; copy and paste the part between the [ code]  and [ /code] lines, give it a name, save, close, reload
    Code:
    Sub YES
Call Addline("TDS' Happy Weekend", "Time for a Happy Weekend it's time it's time..")
Call Addline("TDS' Happy Weekend", "Will it be a happy weekend?")
Speak "Yes! and enjoy yourself a lot!"
    End Sub

You activate it with typing "yes" at the bottom of TDS console.
Of course you can change it at wish.....just a test..

Do you mind telling if you also have the MSAgents included and get them to speak?
The MS Office agents don't talk, so you really need one of the other agents.
They do via TDS3 and with Win98, ME, 2000 (i think) so we have little test scripts for those as well.
As Wayne loves blue is my impression seeing the DCS site, i made all little scripts on the MSAgent Genie which is blue.

Free modification of Wayne's original script for TDS3.
you can have an MS Agent On-screen
'In just 2 lines of SS3:
    Code:
    'Load the default Genie character...
    Call MSAgentForm.LoadMSAgent("Genie", SysVar("sys.windowsdirectory") & "\msagent\chars\genie.acs")

    'Make the Genie appear on-screen
    MSAgentForm.AgentControl "Show"
    '
    'Make the Genie speak...
    MSAgentForm.AgentControl "Speak", "Gu'\emp\day, and hello\emp\there!"
    '
'Move to the very top-left co-ordinates of the screen (0,0), and take 1000 milliseconds to get there
    MSAgentForm.AgentControl "MoveTo", "0", "0", "1000"
    '
    'Sing...
MSAgentForm.AgentControl "Speak", "Congratulations with this beautiful Final"
    '
'Then move Genie to the top-left corner of TDS
    MSAgentForm.AgentControl "MoveTo", CStr(Masterform.Left / 15), CStr(Masterform.Top / 15), "1000"
    '
'Then make the Genie gesture with his hands at the top-left-hand corner of the screen
    MSAgentForm.AgentControl "GestureAt", "0", "0"
    '
    'Speak bye bye...
MSAgentForm.AgentControl "Speak", "Great work guys, for sure!"
    '
    'And finally hide the Genie
    MSAgentForm.AgentControl "Hide"
    '
    'Make Genie return...
    MSAgentForm.AgentControl "Show"
    '
    'Genie wants cake...
MSAgentForm.AgentControl "Speak", "Now i want birthday cake!"
    '
    'Genie thanks...
    MSAgentForm.AgentControl "Speak", "Thank you! Bye!!"
    '
    'Genie leaves now...
    MSAgentForm.AgentControl "Hide"

    'Microsoft Agent Downloads:
'(includes Microsoft Agent, Agent Character files, Text-to-Speech engines, and more; for XP please only take the agents characters, all the rest is included already)
'PS. It only allows for 1 Agent on-screen at a time, so unfortunately you won't be able to write movie scripts (yet).

As i think only registered users can use longer scripts, i don't think it's usefull to get much deeper into this scripting part here, but it's very nice trying!

    Hi Jas,
    Very disappointing.....
Will dig in the MS newsgroup about the TTS/speech engines part then, as i have seen it there, their recommendation to download the sapi 4.0 and install it over the 5.0 from XP, but i would not like you to lose too much of the nice new functionalities.

Found this on the microsoft.public.msagent newsgroup.
Some options, the person has XP like yourself, and he is trying the demo on the microsoft msagent site above for the peedy pizza ordering system (quite amuzing btw)
    http://agent.microsoft.com/agent2/sdk/samples/html/peedypza.htm
This is likely one of the following:
    1.  Some SAPI 5 application is running. This would be my first suspect since you mention that you have the Office XP language bar up and that may be enabling the option for speech input. If Office has speech input (which is SAPI 5) turned on, SAPI 4 apps will be blocked. This may be happening even if you are not actively using speech input as it may load SAPI 5 waiting for you to click a button to begin input. If this is the problem, you will have to find the Office option to turn off speech input.

    2.  You have some sound driver incompatibility.

    3.  The language of your Agent application is different than the language that you have speech input for. If your OS is set to a non-English language, and your application/script does not explicitly set the character's language to English, Agent is going to assume the language for the character (and therefore the speech engine to be used) is English. But I don't think this is likely your problem unless you modified the Peedy's Pizza page because it does set the character's language ID.

    4.  You don't have Peedy.Acs stored on your system. This script reports doesn't quite correctly report just the absence of the character file but also indicates a speech problem if the character file is missing from the agent \chars folder.

    A solution of MSagent themselfs:
""Also make certain you don't have some SAPI 5 app running. Best to check the Task Manager to be sure. While SAPI 4 and SAPI 5 will co-exist, they cannot run at the same time. If that fails, try installing SAPI 4 runtime again.""

    Edited here:
Just found a place to get the SAPI4 Runtime, on a very nice testpage again (yes of course, so you can try them out immediately)
    http://www.microsoft.com/msagent/trymsagent.htm
You'll have to allow ActiveX there, btw, and to use IE.

With that TDS speech part would work as well, one should think. Have not seen the person's results there posted yet.

It's getting more complicated, for they are working on SAPI 6 already, not sure what that will be!
And: on most win98/ME systems the SAPI 5 does not work fine, so we miss that nice advanced technology.

With the two scripts above you used two different speech engines from your system, in the first the general windows speech function, in the second the voice which comes especially with the MSAgent used.

The SS3 scripts you can store anywhere in the TDS directory as you load them manually (did not see a SS3 loading scripts automatically yet :)) but there is a special folder in TDS3\Scripts, in which you find many examples folders. In one of them you find the little script to make your computer say "Hello world!"

Many MSAgents scripts are written in VBS, others in VB, and VBS looks a lot like SS3, which is a kind of enhanced VBS. For me playing around with the agents enabled my first steps in the world of scripting. That PeedyPizza thing is a nice example of that, if you look in the source.

Wondering if the speech problem is solved in the meantime?
See one more tip for NT, which might help for XP as well:
If the TTS engines are working for users with local administrator privileges only, the instructions at
    http://www.microsoft.com/msagent/detail/tts3000deploy.htm
    may be applicable as well.
Hope one of the tips above will help making TDS speaking.
    Please keep us updated! Thanks
