Sunbelt VIPRE 3 AV+AS Beta Available

Hi All:

Sunbelt Software is pleased to announce that a public beta for VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware 3.0 is now available for download. VIPRE 3.0 uses a brand new threat engine written entirely by Sunbelt to provide anti-virus and anti-spyware protection for Windows desktops. The next major version of CounterSpy Consumer Antispyware (version 3.0), which uses the same new threat engine but lacks AV protection, will follow the release of VIPRE 3.0.


Downloading the VIPRE Beta

Those interested in helping us test this new beta should register on the Sunbelt Software Beta forums:

During registration select the VIPRE 3 Beta Testers group. You will need to respond to a confirmation email, after which you will have access to the VIPRE 3 Beta forums. The download link as well as key info about the latest beta build can be found in this topic:

System Requirements

- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher
- IBM Compatible 400MHZ Computer with at least 256MB of RAM
- Windows 2000 Pro SP4 or greater, Windows XP Gold or greater (Pro, Home, Tablet, or Media), Windows Vista (incl. SP1)
- 50mb of available hard drive space

Please note that this beta build does not support any 64-bit versions of Windows.


Beta Quality Software

Please keep in mind that this is beta-quality software. As such, you can expect to encounter bugs and other issues, some of which could cause catastrophic system crashes. This beta software should not be installed or used in a production environment or on any PC for which system crashes would be considered unacceptable.


Problems & Questions

If you do encounter a crash and are prompted to send crash information to Microsoft, please do so -- Sunbelt does receive that crash data from Microsoft, and the data helps us fix crashing bugs in VIPRE 3.

Sure a lot of people are testing it but they are posting in Sunbelt Software Beta forums and that is the right place for the beta testers.

I'm curious, but I don't like to try a beta.

And VIPRE is very new, I wonder how effective it will be in the real world (av-comparatives tests should tell us more).

What about the virus signatures ? Does it have a massive virus-signature base ?

 

I know have been there. Forum is busy there

 

requires 150 mega of hard disk...isn t it too much for an AV+AS application?
eset av is 25 MB, lavasoft 23, SAS is 14.3 and trojan remover 12,9.....
remember using counterspy and found it a bit heavy ....

wonder if its fast as they say..

can anyone actually give us an idea of how it works and if its stable enough?

I've been trying it for a couple of days. It is very light (uses about 10k ram and can hardly tell it's there -- I don't care about the disk space since it's so cheap now). The problem is, of course, how effective is it at stopping malware? I'm very impressed with how light and fast it is, and the well designed gui but don't know how good it is. I did get 4 fp's right away.

I'll wait and see once more people use it and it gets tested. I also would like to see the price for a single license drop some (~$29.95).

 

Looks nice and scans fast. It crashed on me during a deep scan (report send to MS). No other other problems encountered

Is the Deep System scan at default configuration ?

I'd have some issues with that, with any security software I'd normally use a scan that uses the full potential of the product.

Of course, if that would cause performance to drop dramatically it would be a different matter.

i took this data from softpedia,( http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Vipre.shtml ), personaly haven t used it and thats why i was asking info about this software. i remember though that when i used counterspy the installation was humongous, something like 120 mega for an antispyware application.... if u say its only 50 i have no reason not believing u. tnx 4 the info.

fp r pretty normal 4 new programms, and i also agree with u on the money issue. just curious if its as fast as sunbelt claims it is..? they actually say its THE fastest. could u give a deep scan example... tnx

 

I have checked it out, but couldn´t test it because I don´t have network access inside VM, can I download and install the updates some other way? And eventhough it´s not perfect, I must say that the GUI looks snappy, so nice job. Of course, I really wonder if Vipre will have a high/better detection rate, and it´s also a bit surprising to me that Sunbelt put so many millions in a new signature based (with limited HIPS) product.

Would this mean that if I download, test and keep this beta version, then when the final (stable) build is released it will be cheaper to purchase for those with beta version installed?

At present there are no plans to offer discounts across the board to those with the beta installed. There will be a discount for existing CounterSpy users who want to upgrade to VIPRE, though.

So you don't consider it fair that those who install the beta, at the risk of their system stability as with any beta software, and who also send back regular feedback on your forums, doesn't even deserve a commercial gesture ?

Not that it would be the only software editor to do that, but I've to admit that's slightly disappointing.

Where can we beta test the new counterspy 3.0 (with vipre engine) I won't use or beta-test Vipre (AV + AS) since I already have an anti-virus (ESS)...

The beta for CounterSpy 3.0 hasn't started yet. We anticipate that it will start sometime in the next month (roughly).

In past betas we have offered free keys to a select few of our beta testers based on their level of participation and the quality of the feedback they provided. I think there's a good chance we'll do that again, but not for simply downloading and installing a beta version.

I am astounded that any of you put eburger68 on the spot like this. I guess you never beta tested. There are 3 types of testers and the vendors know it.

1. The guy who registers, does nothing and expects all.

2. The guy who registers, posts once and expects all.

3.They guy who greatly contributes to trying help create a great product and expects nothing.

The vendors are not stupid, guess who gets all?
