MooSoft The Cleaner Free

is MooSoft The Cleaner Free good product, what is your opinion?

 

I wouldn't recommend it to less-knowledgeable users (including myself), when I look at the screenshots and if you don't know what you are doing, the cleaning becomes risky. I have at least a 100% safe method to clean my system partition.

It is basically a scanner. But the scanning speed is very slow. Effectiveness I do not know. But..

It will be a nice add-on to scanners collector.

IMO, it is a nice one(free at least), but not a must have one.

I have installed it(my disk has a room for it), and will keep it for a little while, to see whether it can produce the kind of catch of day surprise for me. With DeepFreeze on staff, I highly doubt it will ever produce a surprise for me.

I ran "The Cleaner v5.0.0.141 Free Edition" and this is my personal story :

It found 7 threats on my system partition !!!
1) Program Files\GRETECH\GomPlayer\Dodge.dll
2) Windows\system32\ZoneLabs\lib\licenseui.zip.dll
3) Windows\system32\ZoneLabs\lib\zlsvc.zip.dll
4) Windows\system32\ZoneLabs\lib\ConfigWizard.zip.dll
5) Windows\system32\ZoneLabs\lib\zlsvc.zip.dll
6) Windows\system32\ZoneLabs\lib\zui.zip.dll
7) Script Sentry\ScriptSentry.zip (= install file of ScriptSentry)
The are all infected with the malware called "Win32.Suspect".

As you can see 3 softwares are suspicious : GomPlayer, ZoneAlarm Free and ScriptSentry
7 false positives or what ? Some of them have DOUBLE EXTENSIONS and they are all FREEWARES. Very suspicious !!!
Please give me your opinion or I have to uninstall ZoneAlarm Free (my latest install) immediately.

SUPERAntiSpyware didn't find anything. No trojanated ZoneAlarm. Weird.

I unmarked the optional toolbar, so it wasn't installed.
So I've spent 48 minuts + another 20+ minuts on false positives ?

 

Without wasting a vast amount of time considering each ZA entry,my attitude always is that you have to trust well known security apps,.especially leaders like ZA.

I would say some of the entries like licenseui.zip.dll are obviously false positives.

My clean system partition seems to be very useful for checking a scanner on false positives

 

Q: What does Win32.Suspect mean? (^)

A: Win32.Suspect is the designation given to programs that pass a series of diagnostics and are found to be suspicious. It doesn't mean the software in question is malicious. It suggests that further investigation may be required.

 

Time for a whitelist

It probably still is, but what can you expect from a program ? It has no brain, no intelligence, no intuition, no creativity, ... like human beings and that's why it has false positives. Programs can only compare, but can't think.

 

The older versions of the Cleaner seemed much better.

I wasn't aware of the free scanner.
I had a license in the past and found the program to be easy to use.The Moosoft support forum was always helpful too.

 

I couldn't find any info on the item. So can you gives us some info. It is a 6.+ MB free D/L, but I would need a lot more info before I even D/L it. Thanks

 

Maybe it found what ZoneLabs already found. Just ghuessing I stopped using Zonelabs products when they got to big and like most companies wa a hard time with several updates and upgrades. In this day and age you get what you buy or don't by. Lot of nasties out there to be using for main firewall and anti viru free products, IMHO.
