Actually nothing has changed since beta to RC in that module - so it is really weird. We are analyzing some reports from people who were willing to help us, not much feedback though :( Will keep you guys posted if we find something

I reinstalled this, just to mess around. I installed without the web shield, IM protection, Link Scanner, etc, and my machine felt nice and brisk, slightly slower than with Avira. The program ran fine, UNTIL I went to reboot, and then I had the stupid disabled taskbar icon again. It would only show as activated once I manually started up the program though my start menu. *sigh*

Is there any new app added to your system in between RC & final?

no nothing different, I use nod32 suite & SAS(bother remooved prior to installation of AVG:cool:, that's it, same games as usual & no updates to those, I'd be happy to turn off the link scanner as the internet runs fine without it. However if I do that AVG8 gives me a red mark as if a serious security breach has occured. If I had turned off protection in general I would agree with this type reaction but to just turn off the link scanner shouldn't be a major breach IMHO...

Are you using the Web Shield and LinkScanner? I did a reinstall myself, but left them out. I wonder if the reinstall is why Firefox is running faster and it wouldn't have mattered if I had installed the other two?

entropism. I am sorry to hear about your problem. Hopefully kodl will be able to give some assistance.

    Agreed.

It's rather annoying n worrying to have the icon 'notifying' a security issue.

Strange your case with AVG

Yes, I am running both the LinkScanner and WebShield. There are still a few slowdowns with FF but I can feel the difference as earlier the PC would become sluggish during the slowdowns while using FF, now the PC responds well. Turns out the CPU utilization is a *lot* lower now than it was previously. I have no idea why this should be. :doubt:

if I use the link scanner when it searches it just spins forever & I mean I have searches take 5 minutes till it stops scanning all the items that I'm looking at. The beta had it down to a few seconds that's what I don't understand it's like the link scanner was broken between here & there...

I installed AVG 8.0 and it appeared to work fine until I tried to access my Yahoo account. I could log on but as soon as I tried to read my mail, I got the following error:
    “Your Login Session Has Expired”
Have tried everything that tech support has stated so far and I still cannot get into Yahoo. So far, this is what I have tried.
    1. Disable my firewall (still does not work)
    2. Uninstall, download new file, reinstall (still does not work)
    3. Uncheck Web Shield and Link Shield (still does not work)
    4. Uninstall, custom install, do not check Web Shield or Link Shield (still does not work)
    5. Disable 8.0 (system works fine)
If I shut down 8.0, I can check my mail with no problem, but I don’t have an antivirus program just to shut it down on certain sites.
Tech support has averaged 3 plus days to get back to me.
This has take up a considerable amount of time and I have to get back to my work.
    I now have 7.5 re-installed.
I do like AVG and I want to stick with it so, any ideas on when I should try to install 8.0 again?
    Thank you.

    Re: AVG 8 Pro

    Has anyone encountered the following:

I just purchased and installed AVG 8.0 Pro with all modules on my XP machine and everything works ok EXCEPT Link Scanner does not work on Google Search, partially on Yahoo, and completely on Windows Live Search. The advertising states that LinkScanner works with all of these. I tried searching with the AVG Toolbar and without, and these are the same results. It only seems to work like it should on Windows LiveSearch.

Secondly, the AVG tray icon always changes to a Red Icon on startup even though the GUI shows all green indications. I have to shut down the tray icon and then restart it, and then it works normally.

And whenever the program starts, an AVG pop-up it states Watchdog is disconnected, and then seconds later, Watchdog is connected. Does anyone know what this is?

I sent Tech Support two requests 12 hours ago about these problems but no reply as of yet.

    Any solutions?

    Thanks.

Same problem here with watchdog and the red icon, with no solution. Do you have a high end notebook by any chance? PM me with your setup if you feel so inclined.

For what it's worth. I installed an extra 512MB of RAM in my PC today and after reboot my icon had the red mark in it too. I exited and restarted AVG and all was well. It also mentioned about the Watch Dog being disconnected. This wasn't happening before today.

    Re: AVG 8 Pro

Google has just recently changed the format of their paid search results. We will modify the necessary code asap. Yahoo is protected - it is just that Yahoo insisted that pages are not modified unless there is some infection found :(

Both of these issues have been fixed in the latest program update (to be released on Tuesday 11th March)

    Hi Wordward,
thx for your answer.I think i understand that,so there ist no option to install the application ( IS or AV only - have both) with the web scan and without the link scanner?
Am i right, the web scan is a http scan? I think ist´s an important feature, the only thing i dont need is the link scanner.
With all options installed, the app. is to slow for my taste.
Maybe there comes an update to make a install with web scan and without link scanner ...

    regards,
    Soul

    Re: AVG 8 Pro

Thanks for the update regarding the issues concerning LinkScanner and the AVG Tray Icon.

It would be good to find out what was updated and/or fixed in the program by listing a release/version history on the AVG Support Page. I looked there first for info after my AVG auto update but did not find any info there, so I came back here, and voila!

I am glad I subscribed to this forum, and appreciate the feedback of my other fellow forum members.:D

Installed the new build again......hoping for a different behaviour, but........no change at all, still big slowdown. Hotfix installed! Hotmail very hard to get opened, Inbox takes ages to open. Had to activate Webshield by hand again.
For me still no good this way!

The only way I can maintain a working Internet connection on my Vista systems is to install the Firewall from custom install options as previously I was opting for a default install without Firewall. Without the Firewall I loose all DNS resolution.

This as got to be the worst release of AVG ever and I've been buying a 25 user license for the office for 6 yrs now.

Currently I dare not install AVG8 (Network Edition) on our systems.

    :( :thumbd:

I'm pretty certain if you don't install the Web Shield than the LinkScanner won't be installed either. I beleive the toolbar is just that and you can choose to install without WebShield as well. When i went back to uninstall WebShield using the Custom Install again it removed both WebShield and LinkScanner, but not the toolbar. This prompted a message that I can't quite remember, but it pertained to the LinkScanner no longer being installed. You could check not to see this message again. I have mixed feelings about this new AVG 8.0 Suite. I like it, but even with 2 sticks of 512MB RAM installed now my PC still seems a tad bit slower than with Avast or Avira installed. My web browsing seems fine, but I still don't have the WebShield and LinkScanner installed.

There's absolutely something fishy with Avg8 and Vista. I understand, that there are less problems with XP?
