The Vista outbound firewall is ok, but the default is to allow all but those exluded. You can block all except permitted, but AFAIK, there is no notification when an outbound program is blocked the first time.

I tried Vista FireWall Control from Sphinx Software (http://www.sphinx-soft.com/) but the program lacks adequate documentation and configuration takes a fair amount of effort and understanding. Also, there upgrade poilicy leaves a wee bit to be desired.

I'm waiting for Online Armor to release the Vista compatible version then I will try it on my Vista computer.

Shadek its good to hear that you like Online Armor better than Look`Stop. I thought that would be the case. Joann do you use the free or paid version. I hear alot of positives about the free version but it leaves out quite abit. But maybe its good enough for most users. Sure would be nice if the paid version was for 3 machines.

i tried every free firewall (vista 32bit) had problems with games on pc tools, zone alarm seemed to do more dialing out than the wife, comodo pro is utterly vast and a little more than i wanted. i settled for looknstop am delighted with it super lightweight, you can try it free with full functions for 30 days i would give it a look. i use it with nod 2.7 and spyware blaster.

Another vote for Zone Alarm Pro which we have running on 3 pc's at home & two laptops. Works well with both 2.7 & 3 without any problems.

You are lucky that you have not experienced any problems with ZAP 7.x and NOD v3.x since I experienced the same nagging problems (conflicts using ZAP privacy settings when connecting to secure web sites requiring a login) on five different systems using the NOD v3, ZAP 7.x combination on Windows XP SP2. Several of those systems that had this problem only used those two programs with no other security software installed. Therefore I know that the conflict was a result of using those two programs.

NOD v3's proxy based design seems to conflict with ZAP when it has a strict general configuration of its privacy settings (cookie blocking, mobile code blocking, etc.). If those ZAP privacy settings are set to default or do not have a strict configuration then you may not see any conflicts at all. However, in my situation the main usefulness of using ZAP as a security program and not just any other firewall is because of its customizable enhanced privacy control features.

I tried many configuration suggestions from other people here who claimed that NOD v3 and ZAP 7.x worked fine together (without disabling NOD v3.x web scanning or lowering the ZAP 7.x privacy settings) but I have yet to see a Windows XP SP2 system that does not experience the problems I described. Because I require systems that work on all web sites and not just most web sites I had to revert back to NOD v2.7x and ZAP 7.x for a combination that seems to work perfectly on every web site I have accessed.

i run nod32 with "online armor free" on my windows xp laptop and with "vista firewall control free edition" on my vista home premium desktop and everything is running smoothly on both systems. Other than that if u got time to look after a software firewall 24/7 u could try comodo...

@ clint7 I use the paid version, purchased it Monday afternoon using the discount code and with that saving went for the 2 year licence.

So far I'm very happy with it but will know more after a few more days of use :thumb:
