To build 1146 in standby mode with real time protection is always 0%. Now peak all the time to 5%.
Too much power consumption for me. Memory usage is OK.

I run Outpost Firewall Pro, KAV, SAS Pro & AppDefend/Regdefend together with no problems. I usually only run the firewall (not hosts/web control) and have the proactive dedense in KAV turned off. I rely on AppDefend/RegDefend for my HIPS.

I really admire the showers of praise from the fans/users of SAS for the product. Have fun! :)

A couple of times today I had SAS Pro show 2 icons in the tray. I could delete one, but don't hjave a clue why it shows 2. It only happened on my laptop, and not the desktop. o_O

I do not have it start with Windows, but on demand.

    Best,
    Jerry

Did you have a previous version installed? If so, the Windows Installer is placing the icon back - you must have installed a version prior to 3.9 at one time.

Yes, I have had essentially all the versions installed. Should I uninstall and reinstall if it happens again?
The last two time I have called it up that has not happened. Maybe it will not.

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

How about using PM's instead of venturing off topic? ;)

To stay on topic, SAS v4 is the bees knees. Beta testing was smooth as silk, and as usual Nick and the SAS team continue to offer up one of the best anti-malware tools on the market.

back to topic yes. I have never used a real time anti spyware that doesn't slow your system down with junk.It doesn't bug you about updates and this that and the other thing. It does its job and does it well.

You should take a moment to try SUPERAntiSpyware. It does all of the above and then some.

Sorry to say I don't understand the above response to the question whether the new version can be installed over the existing one or if the existing one should be uninstalled first.

I sent SAS an email with that same inquiry and was given the following response.

Just uninstall 3.9 and then install 4.0. Takes a minute.

    bman412,

I run SAS free and Threatfire on both of my systems and have never had any problems with compatibility. I have Threatfire's protection level set to 3 though. Have you got the protection level set higher than the recommended level of 3?

Thank you, Firebytes. Your response prompted me to re-read the emailed answer I got from SAS and, sure enough, I discovered that I didn't scroll up through their email. The beginning of their message confirmed what you said. So I used their wizard updater and it was simple (imagine that...something simple involving a computer and a program!).

    I'm impressed by SAS.

We have this on our list - we will have the option to display a notification window for definition updates.

Lighter on resources ? I doubt it because my memory usage stays the same. Being not visible in the processses doesn't mean it's lighter !!! I think it's good product but they the truth has it's rights no ?

SAS has been a combination of low-system resource consumption
and effective malware protection. I am satisfied with SAS v4!
Especially after what I suffered from CounterSpy:
-Scan & Update sessions that lasted for...ever...
    -False Positives in the Registry.
    -High system resource consumption.

Yes I had ThreatFire's protection set at level 3 and SAS 4 wont start up with that set up. Anyways, uninstalled ThreatFire and everything's running smooth now with regards to SAS functioning.

Great apps these two btw :)

SUPERAntiSpyware 4.0 uses around 500k of PHYSICAL memory when it's not scanning. The memory is swapped to disk.
