Just noticed that importing your email contacts from Outlook into the whitelist via Anti-Spam in advanced options is fine and they'll stay there initially. Been checking at various times throughout the day and they were still there. However, the problem comes when you send an email. Just after I sent one, I checked the whitelist again and lo and behold it was empty - all contacts previously in that list had been inadvertently moved to the blacklist. Also, not sure, but I think it also adds in the email address you emailed to if that isn't in the contact list you previously imported.

I've sent 3 emails to AVG support today about the 3 issues I've found so far. They being 1) number of emails scanned is still showing as 0 under email scanner in the GUI even though I know they're being scanned as I've set both incoming & outgoing to certify and that's working (presume that means they're being scanned!), 2) the problem mentioned above re. the whitelist/blacklist (effects me on my Vista PC with Outlook 2007 and also my XP laptop running Outlook 2003) and 3) false postivies appertaining to the 'activex compatability' reg entries created by Spybot.

If they can fix these issues asap then, for me at least, I'm v happy so far with this.

have you tried to chat with someone? the problem most of us had was when you initiate a chat you get disconnected.

Also in your setting do you have ms messenger checked?
This seemed to happen with some if ms messenger was checked and some had it even if ms messenger was not checked.

I have it checked and made sure it is scanning Windows Live Messenger. I have had IM conversations with people for business almost hourly. I have not used the voice communication/video aspect of Windows Live Messenger yet. That part I cannot vouch for because I have no point of reference.

I did just initiate IM's with several people after making sure all of the security was turned on correctly and had no problems. If this was about voice chat disregard what I said. The text IM's work fine and that's what I thought I was reading when I made my initial post.

    Hi RobinB,

Unchecked scanning of outgoing messages as you suggested (think this is the default setting when I first installed) and sent a couple of emails and the whitelist stayed intact...(JUST CHECKED AGAIN AND THEY'VE BEEN PUT BACK INTO THE BLACKLIST. Have sent a report to technical support about this).

Also, I chose to train the anti-spam from choosing 'configure' from within Outlook and if I click on the 'help' button nothing happens! Can anyone else confirm if they get help from the anti-spam training wizard?

Anyone else having issues with AVG 8 on Vista?

I've tried it on 2 different system and both suffer the same problem, no internet once I've installed AVG 8 and rebooted.

One system is running Vista Home Premium and is 1 month old.
The other is running Vista Ultimate and is 2 yrs old.

Both are up to date on Windows Updates (minus SP1) and both have the hotfix KB929547 installed.

Both systems run via a SAGEM F@ST 2504 ADSL router.

AVG runs fine during the installation and works fine until you reboot the system then the problems start.

However if you reboot the SAGEM router, internet access comes back for a few minutes before seemingly being blocked again.

    Totally baffled...

    Hi there,

I've not experienced any issues re. internet connection since I installed AVG 8 on my Vista PC or indeed on my laptop running XP. Contact tech support and they'll send you a diag to run so hopefully they can look at into it and fix it for you.

Initial install Avg 8 was ok, but after a few minutes Msn kept on disconnecting. Together with the big slowdown......removed the whole thing again. I think there's a lot to be done......after reading these posts.

Still issues with Web Shield sometimes deactivating itself when rebooting the PC, AVG loads, but Web Shield is inactive and has to be activated manually. Also I've noticed a popup that changes in a few seconds from disconnected from Watch Dog, to connected to Watch Dog :doubt:

Webshield now deactivated permanent, but it is enabled in the configuration! Manually activating does not work now!

Just re-installed Avg Antivirus over the top and now the Webshield is active again. Reason for de-activation? No idea......!!!

But now with Webshield active again, I can hardly get Hotmail opened and when it's open......it takes ages to get the mail opened. This doesn't feel good at all.

I stopped trying it over the weekend, I don't think the product is ready & this is a vast chg from the beta which ran smooth. You shouldn't have to disable the web scanner for it to run smooth but in my case you did. I would of liked for it to work but freezing the internet is not the way to keep nasties off you computer...

You're right.....it's not what it should be. The same here, when Webshield was disabled, everything went fine, so.....there's soemthing sour.
I have had great contact with support and sent them some log files, in order for them to see what might be the cause for the slowing down issues.

    What are you using now?

Hi Ade 1. I have heard back from support, but because I have uninstalled the anti spam module due to the problems, I can no longer send them the files they want..........................and if they don't get the files they can't help me.
So I have purchased Ella for outlook and am now using that instead. I did inform support that others were experiencing the same....................
The rest of it is good, just a shame they have not sorted out the anti spam. I think it has some underlying problem. I don't want to get into the realms of installing and uninstalling just for the sake of sorting out the spam, I think I will stay as I am it seems to be less grief. If they sort it out I might be tempted to re try it.

Is Nod32 v3.0 not enough? Is Nod32 up to par now?

I had to give up on it as well. The feeling of it was too heavy. Also it took forever to install. NEVER had that problem before, with ANY version of AVG. Uninstalling took a long time as well + I had to reboot into safe mode, before I could get windows up and running again. I'm not sure, but I think it was the firewall being the sinner. Maybe one day on a fresh install of windows, I give it a spin again. Running the 2 lightest av's at the moment. ESS as usual, on my desktop and giving the good doctor a spin, on my laptop and desktop at work....so far I like it :)

    Cheers
