I have a friend who got one of those AVG Pro 7.5 licenses for free a couple months back (maybe from computeractive or vnunet?). Will AVG Pro 7.5 upgrade to AVG 8? I would be surprised if it did since 8 has antispyware component now. Anybody know? Is there an upgrade fee for AVG Pro 7.5 users to get 8.0?

    thanks

I used the same license as you mentioned and it works ok. ;) But make sure you install the AV Pro and not the Internet Sec. Suite.

Hmmm :doubt: My AVG AntiVirus 8 just says AVG Anti-Virus in the licence module, it says nothing about being AVG Anti-Virus 8 Professional. when I went to avg.com and entered my AVG Anti-Spyware licence number to get the free upgrade, I immediatly got issued a new licence key online, and a link to download AVG Anti-Virus 8, but as I mentioned in the beginning, it doesnt say Professional in the licence section, not on the taskbar icon either :doubt:

Ok, that's maybe my mistake.......but the Avg AV Pro license doesn't work with the suite, that's what I mean. So, Avg Antivirus is ok and is the same as the old Pro 7.5.

Thats OK then :D running it for a day now and it seems to work all ok, however I have discovered that occasionally after a reboot the Web Shield needs to be activated manually, hope they fix this otherwise Its detection rates are extremely good judging by the score 7.5 was getting at av-comparatives :)

To all using Windows Vista who experience slow browsing or slow startup of browser and some applications after installing AVG8: there is an issue in Vista that might be related to this. Please check this Microsoft KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929547 and try to install the Vista patch that is available on that site. Feedback appreciated (PM or reply here). Thanks

Thanks for that Aid 1. I too have mailed to support, so hopefully it is an issue they can resolve. I also found it dumped all my contacts from the whitelist to the blacklist, which meant all my good mails ended up in the spam folder.
I have removed the spam module for now until they can resolve this.

    Regards Rollers

I can confirm we applied this patch to a vista laptop experiencing the same issues and the laptop now works a lot better!

:) I am wondering why some licenses (like mine, for example) upgraded to v8.0 from the old AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 (formerly Ewido) now say "AVG Anti-Spyware Professional Edition" in the corner, instead of saying "AVG Anti-Virus 8.0," which is what I really wanted. Since there is no longer a standalone AVG Anti-Spyware, why not just call it AVG Anti-Virus? Seems to me, this would help to avoid confusion.:D

I just noticed that as well!

PS. Also, I'm running Vista with Service Pack 1 and I have no issues whatsoever with slow web browsing.

This happened to me at first, I think you did the same as me and just downloaded AVG Anti-Virus 8 amd installed it using your Anti-Spyware Licence o_O :) Well dont worry cause I found the right upgrade path so just enter your AVG Anti-Spyware Licence here, and you will get an instant replacement Licence for AVG Anti-Virus 8 :) I would also fill in the email so it gets sent you as well :)

    DVD+R,
Thanks for this information! I got the new AVG AV 8.0 license number; but how did you go about installing it--over the previous AS version, or did you remove the previous version? Thanks again for your help! It looks hopeful that it will work!

    I uninstalled 7.5 first.
AVG is very easy to uninstall, then ran Ccleaner to take out any loose ends.
    Good luck! :)

    Danny9 & DVD+R,
Thanks a great deal for your help! I went ahead and uninstalled the previous version, installed the new Anti-Virus 8.0, and it went like a charm! The program now says, "AVG Anti-Virus 8.0" in the corner! Excellent!:D

you cannot work live messenger with webshield turned on. That was a problem with the beta and we told grisoft that but they seemed to have not fixed it.
also webshield slowed down the browser in a lot of our computers to a crawl. Disabling or not installing this feature made a huge difference.

So, when you perform a scan does AVG 8 come up with lots of activex compatability entries which it deems as adware? (I know from some posts back one user confirmed this including a screenshot). Well, I did some looking around on the web and I may have found out what these are. I use Spybot S&D and use the immunization feature. Apparently, it seems that these activex entries are what Spybot has added in order to STOP activex running on "dodgy" websites but AVG deems them as risks due to the name of them. So, I have decided to keep them for the time being. I found the info on this site useful - http://turbomedo.blogspot.com/2006/09/part-1-internet-explorer-security.html.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? Anyone decide to delete them? Also, are those that are getting these entries after the scan using Spybot or anyother spyware immunization feature? Or indeed anyone getting these entreis who have never used such products? Just curious to see if these entries are present in systems that have never used immunization features. At the moment then, this seems like all of these registry entries are being reported as false positives by AVG. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Looked promising to start with but soon discovered that AVG was blocking my internet connection in Vista and I could only get local network access. Removed AVG and everything working fine again.

I'll take another look in a month or so and hope some of the bugs are sorted.

I'm running AVG 8 Plus Firewall on a System with Vista Home Premium and I have no problems using my Windows Live Messenger at all. WLM has not failed to work once since I installed the new AVG.
