So OneCare joins the club of software solutions that want exclusive access to your PC? Cute :D

Add Grisoft's AVG AS to that club.

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=199017

"as we did not test possible conflict between AVG AS and another AV or AS product we cannot guarantee the compatibility. But we can assure you that AVG Anti-Spyware is fully compatible with our AVG Anti-Virus."

"It is generally not recommended to have more real time protection programs of the same type, as it may block the detection, removal of malware and it may even cause conflicts. So we do not recommend to use two real time protecions at the same time."
(which is the same reason One Care gives for removing AVG AS)

This in spite of the compatibility chart for AVG AS showing various AVs and anti-spyware products, with real time protection, being compatible.
    http://www.ewido.net/en/compatibility/

That list was originally made when it was still Ewido, but it cites AVG AS.
Interesting that this has changed now that Grisoft is the owner.

Yeah I noticed that. With OneCare it could even be so, considering it does use the Windows Defender (IIRC) as AS component. However, regarding other packages, it would be lousy trick from AVG to develop AVG AS to make it "incompatible" with other security software, especially when it comes to AV. After all, this is just anti-spyware, not full-fledged anti-malware (which would include AV too) :)

I started using OneCare on one of my laptops because I heard it worked well with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. This laptop does not spend much time on the Net. When I saw this warning the other day I thought that Microsoft and not AVG should resolve this issue. Right now I am keeping the free AVG anti-spyware program on my computer. I am hoping that this issue gets resolved soon. Because of this conflict I am really turned off by Microsoft and its OneCare Live software.

Hi. This is purely a Microsoft thing and we are in touch with them, trying to resolve the issue.
As for the link above stating possible incompatibility issues, maybe it did not use proper wording, but please note that it mentions specifically 'products of the same type' (i.e. typically anti-virus with anti-virus). And what is even more important, the primary message of that post was that AVG QA team does not test AVG AS specifically against NOD so there is no _guarantee_ that it would work together. But I admit that this was not clear enough and might be misleading, so I will point out that AVG AS is designed to run alongside other AV products. It was implemented as an additional layer of protection, so running alongside other AV product should not cause any incompatibilities.
I will keep you all posted when we have some feedback from Microsoft about this new feature of OneCare.

Just received info from them ;) Well, apparently we will have to wait quite some time, they plan to improve the UI to describe and handle possible conflicts in a better way. Till then, this is not considered (by Microsoft) a false detection issue as it is describing the overall status of the system and potential conflicts. It might make sense for you, users of OneCare, contact Microsoft directly ;)

I called Microsoft this morning and talked with Richard over on WLOC. I told him that WLOC wanted to remove AVG anti-spyware. He told me that this happened because of the last update for WLOC. He advised me to remove AVG anti-spyware. I told him that I was using Nod32, and that I was not getting a prompt to remove AVG. Richard said that Nod32 is an anti-virus program and does not have malware protection, and that is why it does not conflict with AVG. I told him that I used Panda anti-virus + anti-spyware, and this program was not conflicting with AVG. Again, he stated that Panda did not have malware or spyware protection, and that is why there was no conflict with AVG anti-spyware.

I asked if they would be doing another update that would allow WLOC to co-exist as it did before with AVG, and the answer was, "No." I explained that not allowing AVG anti-spyware to work with WLOC may upset some of their customers, and therefore it would be in Microsoft's interest to resolve this conflict. I was given the same pat answer. If my laptop was spending more time on the Internet, I would remove WLOC.

It seems to me that Microsoft does not care about resolving this problem. My only suggestion would be to call Microsoft and tell them what you really think.

    I do think a conflict
    alert should
    be allowed to be
    ignored by the user
    for performance concerns

Well, I am glad to read that Microsoft is working at it.

Keep the customers happy and they will return.

    We got our answer--
AVG Tech is ending AVG AS
I guess this is what AVG Tech was working
on when I complained that WLOC
    conflicts.

I guess this WLOC thread SHOULD BE CLOSED

    fyi
WinPatrol and MalwareBytes MBAM are looking better and better these days

    I had enough!

I was an original ewido Pro version user, purchasing three lifetime licenses
and have stayed with this product up to today using AVG anti spyware
on three of my four computers.
I have been reading that AVG may likely stop supporting this 7.5 release
at the end of this year. So I am not waiting and have removed it.

    I am staying with
    SpywareBlaster 4.0
    MalwareBytes Pro MBAM AntiMalware 1.5
    SUPERAntiSpyware 4.0,
WinPatrol Plus(see link in my signature.)
