There are still a few issues in the beta, so a few beta-refresh releases are expected soon.

I hope they make a new GUI, because it is to difficult to navigate. And it's ugly as hell. Yes, I know you can download different GUI's, but they all suck.

Sure, Avst needs a good elegent GUI. Default GUI is so stupid.

On the other hand, the skinles interface is the easiest of any AV. ;)

Indeed, one of the most trouble-free AVs.

I know it but i was talking of default skin/ settings. An ordinary user who installs it has no idea about it.

Yeah, I have never been that fond of the Avast GUI but to me that's the least important thing...

GUI will change with version 5.x. Until then, you'll just have to go with skins or skinless interface.

:thumb: I have to agree, it's been a while since I've used Avast but wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

The first thing I did was disable the default media player GUI. After that, I was amazed at the many settings Avast has. The amount of settings available for the little known about screen saver scanner was also impressive.

I used to use AVAST! myself after others either bogged my machine down or made some other issue, plus it's nifty Audio Announcement when AVAST! makes a find is pretty advanced, speaking of advancements, this weekend i tested it's last (not beta) version and was pleasantly surprised at it's features, but then thats always been a big sell for me with Alwil's AV.

I recently recommended it to a friend who grew absolutely frustrated at Norton's, can't imagine why. LoL

I used to enjoy testing viruses with it based on the fact that unlike some other AV's who would capture & kill your samples, it always had the option to just IGNORE it and not lose it.

Few months? They have been at version 4.x for ages, so why release version 5.x so fast? Well, they have to do something to keep up.

5.x has been in the planning and development stages for quite a while and (last I heard) is scheduled for release this summer. As for keeping up, they are doing just fine with the current 4.x product.

Version numbers don't mean anything if even minor versions result in major changes. What difference does it make if avast! is in version 4.x for 3 years and made a huge progress from version 4.0 up to current 4.8 or some other vendor who creates "new" version each year with basically no changes except in GUI and few extras. I hope you get the picture...

Besides, with changes planned for version 5.x it's not something you'll do over night. Btw, if i leak some data (not really confidential), pretty much all of the v4.8 features were initially planned for version 5. So, say thanks to ALWIL team for giving us the v5 tech today :p

Maybe not a spectaculair release, but a very usefull one

    - APT did not get it down
    - Bootscan on rootkits
    - Additional settings (heuristics) on Internet Post
    - Scan now outside pasword control

All in all very happy with this beta

Does anyone know when this will be released as final and if so will it be available via the program updater or will we have to uninstall version 4.7 first?
