    Hi I need Help,

I have never been able to install AVG Antispyware 7.5.1.43.3349! After I install it I get the following which NOONE has ever been able to help me resolve, I hope there is an answer now?

The procedure Entry Point ??Date@@QAE_J@J could not be located in the dynamic link library Engine.DLL Here is a screenshot, does anyone know how to make AVG work?http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/1016/02252008192127cc7.jpg

After I get the message in the screenshot. click OK, I get the same message again then if I click OK a 2nd time I get a BSOD & must reboot. I'm usings windows XP Pro SP2+ all updates installed, I use AntiVir PE Classic free antivirus, does anyone have a solution??

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Karl,

Thank-you for the reply, I did a search for engine.dll and found several things using that:

    1. A-Squared Free (a malware program)
    2. X-Drive as was pointed out
    3. Dell printer 946
    4. and AVG of course

Everything else works except AVG, as a test I'll uninstall some of them & see what happens and report back

    Thanks again,
    Steve

    Well Not good news,

I removed all other software that had Engine.DLL's, I reintalled a fresh copy of AVG AS 7.5.1.43.3349, it installed perfectly & said reboot. I did a reboot & everytime it rebooted it got to staring AVG AS & it went to a Blue Sceen as window's started, I had to hard power down to re-boot each time, I finally came up in Safe Mode & un-installed AVG and the Blue Screen stopped on the next reboot!

I know there is something in my computer because many 1,000's of users have this installed using XP Pro SP2.

Can one of the Ewido people tell me of some Registry Entry which might cause this or be corrupt that I could remove? Some place to look to make AVG AS run? I'll try anything to resolve this problem!!

    Thanks anyone for any assistance,
    Steve

Which other applications are running in the background?

Did you use tools like 'Dropmyrights' for the installation or download of the AVG Anti-Spyware?

Did you run the Setup with an User account that has Administrator rights?

Did you run the Setup after(!) the successful download or just press 'Run' on the Download Messagebox in your Internet Browser?

Did you run the uninstaller in the Installation path of the AVG Anti-Spyware to uninstall our Software or did you manually remove the files inside the folder?

    Hi Again Karl,

Here is the info you requested:

Which other applications are running in the background?

My Antivirus Antivir Personnal Edition Classic
I usually have A-Squared Free running but it was uninstalled for the test
    Window's defender
    AIM
    Weather Pulse

Did you use tools like 'Dropmyrights' for the installation or download of the AVG Anti-Spyware? No

Did you run the Setup with an User account that has Administrator rights?
Administrator account, I'm the only person using my system

Did you run the Setup after(!) the successful download or just press 'Run' on the Download Messagebox in your Internet Browser?

    Just hit run

Did you run the uninstaller in the Installation path of the AVG Anti-Spyware to uninstall our Software or did you manually remove the files inside the folder?
    I used the uninstaller

    Hi All,

It looks like Version 8 is out but it seems to be a "Whole Package" so my problem with AS 7.5 install might not be important? Since I like AntiVir PE Classic anti-virus & it looks like the V8 is a whole package which is NOT FREE at this point, what are my options? Will AVG AS be offered as a separate FREE product or as some have said AS 7.5 is dead & no chance AS 8.0 is FREE?

Let's see AVG AS 7.5 Blue Screens me on windows XP Pro SP2+ all updates & there is no replacement (FREE) anyways!!

How is Superantispyware, I think V4 is very close to being released, I know they have a free version?

    Thanks for any help,
    Steve

Sorry for the delay. Steve1209, did you try to contact also the Technical Support of AVG?

Can you please run the freeware tool CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) to clean up your System from Temporary files and other trash files.

Scan your System with AVG Anti-Rootkit Free:
    http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-rootkit-free/lng/us/tpl/v5

Then open in the hardware tab of 'My Computer' Properties on your desktop (right-click 'My Computer', select 'Properties', then at thetop 'Hardware'). Now click on the Button 'Device manager'.
Please check if there are any lines marked with icons like an Question mark. If yes, please which devices it is and try to (re)install the driver for this device.

Please check if there are following files in the AVG Anti-Spyware installation folder (if you still have the Software installed on your System):
    - error.txt
    - logfile.txt
    - avgas.dmp
    - avgas.err
If yes, please try to send these files with a detailed information about your problem to the AVG Technical Support:
    http://www.grisoft.com/ww.support-technical
