    I am not the OP, but have experienced the problem on my system where the CPU peaks and checking Process Explorer shows "ekrn.exe" as the culprit. Upon installing the first release of Nod32 Version 3, and any subsequent update, my CPU randomly hits 99% to 100% related to the "ekrn.exe" process and will not relinquish the usage until I manually terminate it. There is no reason or rhyme as to why or when the usage peaks, so no specifics can be applied.

    There is a thread ".ekrn is being a resource hog..." that addresses the issue to some extent.

    I, too, would like to know if this has been resolved before attempting to install the latest update.

    I have gone back to version 2.70.39 and am happy with it. However, since I purchased a 2 year license, it would be nice to use the latest version prior to the expiration of my license. :)

    Can you install this latest version over 2.7?

    Sir George said it best in his answer to your question above so I won't repeat his post. I did contact support at that time, and they came back wanting me to work with them on it. It was bad timing as I was leaving on a trip. I had already reverted to v2.7 where I remain, so I was no help. Thanks for your concern. :)

    Just out of curiosity, have you tried "Ctrl-Alt-Del" and bring up the task manager, scroll down to ekern.exe and right click on it. There is a series of priorities there. Mine is set to Normal. You can go up or down in priority from there. My computer and NOD32 ver 3.0.642 seemingly runs absolutely normal, so I have no issues at this moment. But, to someone that has a higher than normal CPU usage, I thought this might be an alternative, is to set the priority a bit lower, unless it severely hampers the AV protection. Marcos...thoughts?

    I'm running and AMD 64bit Athlon processor 3200+ (although on a 32bit system) 2.03GHz (slight overclock) 1GB DDR RAM. KV8MAX3 Abit motherboard.

    Darth, When I re-install v3 I will try that. I will make a note to myself. Thanks;)

    OK, I set up a test machine with a fresh install of 32 bit Vista.

    After a quick test, I can report that this version fixes the problem with: http://www.anandtech.com/

    What a shame that support could not simply specify this as one of the fixes or even answer when asked (AFAIK).

    I'll still wait and watch before I try this version on one of my production computers. I have a new multi-user license but I don't want to start the clock running on it until I gain some confidence in this version.

    I never had any problem with 3.0.621.0 when I went to www.anandtech.com All worked flawlessly.

    i was one of the people having trouble with anandtech and so far with this new version all seems to be well. i have just installed this version and am testing it out as i type this. i hope they have worked out most of the bugs.

    Yeah, OK --- that certainly proves that there was never any problem or what exactly does it contribute? (A rhetorical question)

    My settings in my computer, runing XP were as such that I never experienced near the problems that other have had issues with. Setting from one computer to another make quite a difference. If one computer can go to a website with no problem, then it shows the possibility that setting on an individual basis do make a difference.

    Try to understand the problem before you post to see if your comment is appropriate. This problem has a history on this board which you could research. It is a Vista problem.

    That wouldnt surprise me in the least. Maybe its the "still to be ironed out" OS not the app. ;)

    happy to report after 24 hours of use all the things i did not like about version 3 have been fixed with this release and version 2 is now retired for me. scan times have improved greatly for me and all websites load as they should. i should also state that i am running service pack 1 for vista with it and it works fine.

    Thank you :D for sharing this works with Vista SP1 installed. I just installed SP1 today and was thinking about finally making the upgrade to V3 as it looks like things may finally be running smoothly with it and Vista.

    good, but what about building a translate framework for eset products?
    so eset dont need to build a new build for every language, a simple text file with a list like

    Orginal Language = Translate Language
    English = Engelsk
    Copy = Kopier
    Past = Lim inn
    Cancel = Avbryt
    Help and support = Hjelp og Støtte
    Protection Status = Besyttelse Status
    Update = Oppdater

    the code might need to change a bit like
    %copy% and enable norweigan thats goes into kopier :D

    I would like to appreciate for new version of the title subject.
    After I got it update from my last or previous version, I found a great change. I lost of validation... and my ESET NOD32 v.3.0.642 on trial version, 30 days left.
    Virus signature database: 2933 (20080310)
    Update module: 1023 (20080229)
    Antivirus and antispyware scanner module: 1107 (20080303)
    Advanced heuristics module: 1070 (20080212)
    Archive support module: 1074 (20080307)
    Cleaner module: 1026 (2008022:cool:
    Now every effort to get my validation activate is not possible. Password is declaring as invalid.
    Nice for this Upgrade/Update.
    I would advise to everyone to get this nice upgrade and face the consequences!

    This new version is better than old one but for some reason it is was really slow downloading web sites, disable web protection & it fixed it so back to a broken 2.7 that wont complete a full scan. :(

    Don't!

    Try this:

    1. Download fresh new version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.0 from
    http://www.eset.com/download . Make sure that you choose the correct version.
    2. Uninstall your current version from Control Panel
    3. Reboot the computer when prompted
    4. Delete manually these folders:

    - C:\Program files\ESET
    - C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Application data\Eset
    - C:\Documents and Settings\~username~\Local Settings\Application data\Eset

    5. Repair Winsock
    Windows XP SP2 , XP SP3 and Windows Vista

    Goto Start –> Run
    type cmd and click OK.
    Type netsh winsock reset
    Press ENTER . Restart immediately !

    N.B. ! There is a space between the commands , example netshSPACEwinsockSPACEreset
    N.B. ! If you use Windows Vista , you must first run cmd as Administrator .

    6. Reinstall your ESET software using the file you downloaded in step1 . Use typical install.

    7. Update ESET Antivirus

    Now write do you use Firefox or another 3rd party browser when you experience "slow downloading" ?
