ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.0.642 released

A newer version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.0.642 has been released. It's downloadable from official download pages (the version information will be updated shortly).

Currently it's available in English, Slovak and Czech. Other language and trial versions will be released shortly as soon as they pass tests.

Changelog:

- Fixed problem with installation on machines with older version of CheckPoint
- Fixed problem with Web Access Protection module in Windows Vista
- Fixed problems in Outlook Express and Windows Mail:

1. disappearing user account information
2. inability to send receipt/delivery reports
3. rules for coloring specific messages

- Other small fixes

 

what about password protection for uninstall ? Fix or not ?

Downloaded and installed on 2 of my home computers, both XP Pro version with SP2. No issues whatsoever in installing. It apparently starts the install, shuts down the current NOD32 ver. 621, and stops services, and uninstalls drivers, then continues and installs new services and drivers and completes with no hitch.

One note.... my license expiration date did not show up in the main screen, then I manually updated and after update, the date of expiration appeared.

All is well in Michigan.

Pass the tests ? Thats a point i do not understand. I mean, what should now been tested ? The Original English Build 642 has been tested and released. Ok so far, but what should now been tested by the german Version for example ?

Marcos, please read this. If you have any ability to send feedback to someone at Eset who has any authority at all, I beg you to do so. Out here in the hinterlands, it is looking very much as though Eset is unaware of just how badly this version of their antivirus is failing.

The release notes provided by Eset for this new version are so vague that they're useless!

There is a proper way to provide fixes for serious problems like these. If by "issue with network browsing" Eset is referring to the driver that is causing systems to have Event ID 6004 errors logged repeatedly to the System log whenever network shares are browsed, then it would be very nice indeed if it had been fixed. But I feel no assurance that that is the case. In fact, someone has already posted trying the new version and still seeing the errors show up in the System log every time the network shares are browsed.

I've been trying to run this software on an AD domain that controls actual production lines at my company. EAV 3.x was causing these controllers to become unresponsive, forcing me to perform a hard reboot on them. I had to revert to 2.70.39 for the entire domain. That has fixed the network browsing problem, but it leaves me with an antivirus version that doesn't have the administrative features I needed -- not that I have much reason to think that those work in version 3.x either.

I have not been able to get Eset to bother to send me more than about 1 e-mail every week-and-a-half to two weeks. And their responses have been useless. I gathered information for them (system information, communications captures, etc.), and sent it to them, and finally got a response that a new version was available and that I should try it and report to them if I have problems with it. (They even linked me to the home version instead of the business edition.)

Really? That's support? They've never even openly acknowledged the precise issues they're supposed to be trying to fix, and I'm just supposed to shut the damned company down (Yes, production actually has to stop when the servers are stopped.) and install this new version to see if it will work?

I'm not a hobbyist. I'm trying to help a company run its production lines. I had to abandon the use of SAV CE on this domain because it was so horrible, and I switched to Eset's software just in time to watch them come out with an antivirus software version that's worse than SAV.

Eset, in my opinion, has made a terrible blunder in changing their antivirus software paradigm from a light, low-impact package to an invasive, error-prone model which was obviously never tested on anything resembling a production Windows server in real life circumstances. Right now, this software is a far greater threat to the health of my domain than any malware it is likely to encounter.

I happen to know for a fact that my experience is not isolated. This behavior is, in fact, the rule with server systems of this type, and Eset had better get it fixed. No one I know who is trying to use this software in a situation even vaguely like mine is at all amused.

 

One note, Marcos, but shouldn't the "sounds" button being checked in the advanced options allow for sounds?

I didn't. Went perfect! When you install when NOD32 is running it has a checkmark in the setup procedures asking if you want to keep existing settings, which you probably will want. Leave the checkmark there and as it goes along it stops services, uninstalls drivers, installs new drivers and services, etc. All went very well on my end. In fact, I would imagine that leaving .621 in place would be the preferred method.

 

Well, actually I tried to upgrade, and it didn't go well. Restarted after the installation and the NOD32 could never properly load.. I had my settings backed up, so I unistalled manually and then installed again. Works flawlessly now.

 

This question will be ignored just like it has been every time there has been an update released.

 

Fixed problem with Web Access Protection module in Windows Vista - is this for those of us who had problems connecting to some websites? or another issue?

 

I have reported a problem with Web access protection , which is fixed in 3.0.642 , but it appeared not only in Vista

These change logs intentionally doesn't give much information for marketing reasons , I think . It wouldn't be good image for any company posting what problems their previous version had and how it really was (no matter that the current one is much much better) .

 

I don't see any mention of the 99% CPU usage being fixed or not anywhere. Does anyone have any info on that problem?

Pentium 4. This issue was a pain for a lot of people when v3 first came out.

 

Could you be please more specific? Does it happen when the computer is idle or when you copy or downlaod certain files? Have you already contacted customer care re. this?
