How to get F11 working with Boot-US boot manager

Is there any trick to use Boot-US boot manager and still have Acronis' F11 feature working? As both applications overwrite MBR it would require editing MBR, not sure if it's possible.

I don't know about Boot-US boot manager working with Acronis F11. Which feature of Acronis F11 are you talking about.

I do know that Acronis True Image 10 Home and maybe Acronis True Image 11 Home works with BootIt NG. http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/bootit-next-generation.htm

I have been restoring images with Acronis True Image 10 Home that contained BootIt NG files and it worked out very well.

BootIt NG does work great in uninstalling and reinstalling BootIt NG without problems.

On the other hand, after buying Acronis Disk Director Suite 10, I tried using its Boot Manager and I didn't like it, as it takes time getting use to it. The layout is different from BootIt NG.

Also uninstalling of Acronis Boot Manager, left Windows XP unbootable, where I had to reinstall the operating system by doing a repair and then restoring an image made prior to making changing.

The choice is yours. Go with what you like.

 

I would just like to see the prompt offering booting to TI using F11 at boot time. Boot-US apparently completely overwrites MBR created by activating Acronis Recovery Manager and F11 prompt just won't show at all.

Other than that Boot-US is a very nice boot manager which allows setting up which partitions (primary or logical) you want to hide/unhide when booting to each selected primary partition, and it's free.

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

We recommend you to install any other boot managers before installing Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. When Acronis Startup Recovery Manager is installed, it will back up the existing MBR and refer to it in the boot process after itself.

Thanks, Marat, for your reply. I've tried the suggested route before and it won't work with Boot-US for some reason. Here is the summary of the procedure:

- if Acronis Startup Recovery Manager is already installed, then uninstall it
- install Boot-US manager
- reboot PC to test if Boot-US works as expected
- install Acronis Startup Recovery Manager

Now, at boot time two echo commands show as usually:

- Starting Acronis Loader
- Press F11 for Acronis Startup Recovery Manager

and if you wait until the message times out it will boot straight to Windows XP, Boot-US is nowhere to be found.

This indicates that for some reason Acronis Startup Recovery Manager does not back up the existing MBR, or that it does not refer to it in the boot process after itself, or both of the above.

You can investigate it as this problem might affect other boot managers as well. Boot-US GUI is a very simple application.

1) The download is here (bootuse.zip):

2) You can install the application itself (GUI) in any partition.

3) To install Boot-US (create MBR) start up the GUI and go to:

boot manager - install - follow the wizard
