Nowadays it's good to own good arsenal of live tools if something goes wrong. Where to start? What to choose? Which are must have tools? Mostly I like if there is USB versions because 1GB sticks are so cheap.

    I found myself something...

    BackTrack
    GParted

im curious why you think backtrack/auditor will help you when 'something goes wrong'? its aim is to be a penetration testing tool, and is generally a favourite among wardrivers.

wouldnt system rescue http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page , insert http://www.inside-security.de/insert_en.html , helix http://www.e-fense.com/helix/ or even knoppix http://www.knoppix.org/ be better tools for when 'something goes wrong"?

btw securedvd includes them all on a dvd image http://www.securedvd.org/index.html you should be able to find a torrent [it used to be available @ edit: link removed | confirmed inactive | if it isnt active, a quick search should result with an active torrent] rather than purchasing the dvd from the linux store . edit: securedvd is only available for purchase at the linux store for $14.97, which isnt worth it, grab whatever distros youre interested in from the package separately for free. if you need to purchase cd/dvds because youre on dialup or have any other issue with downloading, burning isos; the price is reasonable as the purchase price for physical media of individual distro go from $5 to $10 generally

ok, glad to have helped. ;-)

please do play with live linux cds all you can; theyre a great learning experience. backtrack is a great tool too but not really for your purpose. regardless, download and burn it, there are several great howtos available on the forum - http://forums.remote-exploit.org/showthread.php?t=5601

    have fun

SecureDVD looks great. It include all of those except SystemRescueCd. I start with that.

I like also Ultimate Boot CD (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/). Do I need Parted Magic or GParted if I have SecureDVD and UBCD?

    EDIT: I can't find that SecureDVD 20080101.

sorry i cant find an active torrent for securedvd either. someone made a request on linuxtracker.org in feb of this year, but no one filled the request. i spent the last hour checking my collection, but i cant find it, sorry. its convenient because it packages 10 distros together in one dvd, but you can grab the ones you want separately from their sources

gparted should be on most live cds :) it is included on system rescue and insert. i believe the ultimate boot cd is integrated into insert. but there isnt any reason that you cant grab the ultimate boot cd too. its good to have a few system rescue type cds as a fallback, if one doesnt work or doesnt work as expected you still have other options that way.
