Vista - Which file erase freeware?

Title says it all.

Looking for file shredding freeware for targeted use, that's reliable on Vista. Only needs to be rated to DoD(3) passes.

Appreciate guidance.

Thanks Scotcov - I used and liked older versions of eraser with XP.

I'm unsure as to it's development model at the moment. I will give it a go if no other good options become available.

I am hoping to find a new & good sustainable alternative to go forward with in Vista. Something light that also works through the context menu.

 

It has everything you say you need. What is the uncertainty about?

 

Only that the development appears to be presently reliant on the one person, 'Joel', who appears to be unpaid and from what I can tell recently embarked on his college life.... it's not always the greatest recipe for software development.

It just makes sense to me to start looking for viable alternatives before I commit to a choice, rather than later.

 

Yeah....that's a bit of a concern. But - not for now. It's a great piece of software as is. If you need something "better" down the road, you don't have to sign-on for life. But, I hope with it being open-source now they'll get more developers involved.

 

I have not tried Heidi yet, but I did download it. But just at a glance, it appears that it only wipes free space and some selected files. I have been using R-Wipe. If there is a way to perform all of the tasks that R-Wipe does for free, then I would like to know. Here is a screen shot.

The bar on the left side shows part of what it will clean but not all. The section for Application traces is minimized completely. If there is a way to do all of these things for free, please let me know. Ccleaner does not even come close.
