Wouldn't it just be simpler to have one website that offers all services, all languages and all downloads?

I mean there are currently (that I know of) 4 English-speaking ESET websites, all that offer different versions of the software. For example, when an updated version is released, eset.EU starts dishing out this new version. It takes a month or so for eset.CO.UK to catch up. eset.COM and eset.CH are the same too.

We're being told there's a new version out, but only for French and Dutch-speaking customers, and even their websites either say "3.0" or "3.0.621", not "3.0.630". In the past the English version has always been the first version to be released if an update is made available, followed by other languages, but for some reason ESET appear to be doing things back to front?!

Is there a reason for all of this?

The downloads that are available from eset.co.uk are always the latest builds available as the download links actually are pointing to the load balancing download servers of eset.com, check the links yourself.

I have to agree. I find it to be a big mess sometimes. Maybe they all contain the same version now, but i have seen cases where that was not the case.

The day eset released 3.0 a lot of the sites didn't even have a link to download 3.0 for a long time. When eset released new releases of 3.0 some sites still had the previous version listed so the downloaded version is not the same as the webpage claim that it should be while other sites have the correct version number listed and some still didn't have 3.0 listed at all. At least if there was only one website with the downloads they would all be equal.

I also found eset.co.uk to have the previous version listed for a long time after a new version is released so it's not correct to say that eset.co.uk is always updated, but it might be correct that the actual download link is the same. It shouldn't be necessary for the customers to check the download link and it shouldn't be necessary to download the file to make sure it's actually the latest version. We should be able to trust what the webpage says which is not the case. Sometimes when eset announce a new 3.0 release it's not to be found anywhere as well so people return to this forum asking where to find it.....maybe in some cases it's just the webpage that isn't updated and the download link is correct. With a single site for the download maybe it would be easier for eset to make the page updated and correct.

OK, what about the fact that currently there isn't a changelog available for either the French nor the Dutch version. I can't read either language, but put it through a translator and you can make out what changes we can expect to see made in the new version when we receive it.

The fact they have released the updated software, without a changelog, is a little odd. How do you know whether the new software you're about to deploy across hundreds of PCs (just an example) is actually going to benefit your users/clients? Without a changelog, you don't, and it could turn out to be a complete waste of your time and un-necessary downtime.

For all we know the updated version could simply be changes to the documentation and spelling corrections. Unless we have a changelog, we just don't know.

The confusion part is that you go to eset.eu and select the French version for example. Here you can see the new version - great. However, click the changelog link, and you get the changelog for v3.0.621, and in English, not French.

I totally agree with you, Dave, it really is a mess.

there's nothing I can add to your post.

and then, although this does not "concern" this thread, the uninstallation of ESS is also a mess.

I spent all weekend trying to get the firewall remnants out of my vista, I did it once after hijack advised me, so, as it seemed that I could remove it successfully I restored a True Image with the idea of removing ESS & installing NOD32 & Webroot firewall.

I could not get the firewall completely out of my system. I spent 2 days on just
    that.
I had to go right back to my image when only Vista was installed & drivers & updates, it was setup to my liking & activated.

    Now I got NOD32 installed & Webroot.

I don't see how it's confusing - the primary site is ESET.COM - as a UK reseller you report to the .co.uk. Not sure why you would even need french version - aren't you prohibited from selling into France?

"Not sure why you would even need french version"....what kind of answer is that? Hopefully you don't work for eset or a reseller because that's not the way to answer customers.

Why it's confusing is already explained in this thread, but this is not about the French version. It's about the problem in general where there are several download sites for the same language, but they often contain different information because some of them is not updated. One example is the 4 English sites. When a new version is released it usually take some time for all of them to have the latest version listed. Maybe the download link is the same from all sites, but it's even more confusing that the site claim that it should be 3.0.621 and maybe it's a newer version and no release notes available. If you go to microsoft.se to to download a English servicepack 2 it's not like Microsoft don't care about updating the Swedish site so what you download might be service pack 1 or 3 even if it says sp2. You cannot assume in that case that everyone in Sweden only care about the Swedish version.

If eset.com is the primary site and the place everyone should go to find the latest release then that should be the only download site as well like already suggested when talking about "one website" for all downloads.

That's funny, ESET's EU site was the first to have 3.0.621 when ESET.com was still handing out 3.0.566.

I did not say I was trying to sell the French version, nor is it any of your business if I'm trying to sell the French version. That's for my ESET Account Manager to decide and respond to accordingly.

As I have stated, ESET claim there's a new French version available, but there isn't a changelog on the website, including the "primary" site. I think anyone with sense would expect the new version in their own language to be accompanied with a changelog, especially in their own language, but instead it seems ESET haven't written the changelog for the new version yet, nor have they released one in a language other than English. For non-speaking-English customers and resellers, that's just down right lazy, and to be honest, very poor.

What I wanted to do, as I've said previously, is run the changelog be it in French or Dutch through a translator so I can determine if the changes included in the new version are really worth getting excited over and planning roll-outs for clients when the English version becomes available. As a reseller I like to be in the know when new versions become available and what changes can be expected in upcoming releases.

My argument is there are different versions on different sites, with no changelogs for the latest changes. It's common for software companies to release a set a Release Notes with new versions of software, but ESET don't appeaer to have done this on this occasion.

Where a new update is provided, they are not getting it out in a timely fashion to all the download "links" as I understand it? Irregardless of language, it would be much simpler to provide redirects to main sites that do have all the latest versions and then let the user determine what language they need it in. This concept should not be hard to implement.

What you are stating is that ESET lacks organization in their website/update scenario and not necessarily in their programs?

it doesn't matter whether you are on eset.com , or the UK site, or the Eset site for Azerbijan - all the links point to the same place, i.e. eset.com's central download servers. So you will get the same version whichever site you use.

If the version numbers are not updated immediately on the UK or EU sites, it does NOT mean you will download an old version.

This already been discussed in this thread so i think people are aware of the common download link, but that's the only thing that is common and probably the reason why this thread exists.

Indeed. Look at it from an end-user's point of view. How are they meant to know the download link is pointing to the new version if the version number on the website says "3.0.621"?!

Better still, you're missing my point about the changelog altogether.

I don't have a problem with ESET's software. There are bugs in 3.0, yes, which is why I'm still using v2.7 for most clients. The problem is there are no changelogs for the new versions; not even for the French or Dutch versions. That makes no sense. It's pointless updating to build 630 when you don't actually know what problems/issues have been fixed.

Wouldn't automatic definition and program updates advance the fixes or update an older ver 3.0.XXX to a newer version, and fix any bugs that was in your installed version 3.0.xxx?

Not always, it depends when Eset places the PCU (Program Component Update) on the servers.

    Hello,

We are looking at ways to better synchronize the download pages on the various web sites. A changelog for v3.0.630.0 is forthcoming.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky
