Seriously tho, I have now moved this thread to a more appropriate Forum and semi applaud Cartoon Boy for creating this topic. Some things can be learned by others due to another individuals lack in judgement as it relates to issues such as this.

you can't just rely on one test fuzzfas, there are a lot more tests and the test by yourself too.

 

actually AVG did detect it,

it just couldnt handle it, the difference between a detection and actually fixing the problem are totally different, something the 98.1% does not tell you.

i do like AVG, and own it, however..... not detecting it on shell extension, seems to show a lack of 'deep scanning' which drweb has.

 

it seemed to infect alot of genuine programs on your machine that drweb does not usually detect, good job you cleared this asap.

if those infected programs do not work now, you will have to reinstall them im afraid.

Q. AVG detected it only upon execution, but what was BOCLEAN doing, didnt this give any warnings?

AVG Antispyware and AVG Antivirus are two different products; which one are you referring to?

I noticed in his pic the trojan infected Boclean too. It usually does pretty good at stopping trojans by itself.

 

the pic he has shown, is only the detected files that reside in his Memory.

detected 18 in Memory, this is just crazy.

the picture shown, has not even began to scan his computer.

 

why do you keep referring to AVG AS?

 

Doesn,t it seem like a file infector? In that case, I can guess a disaster with a lot more files still infected.

 

This was not a trial version it was a full 2 year licence.

which AV were you using?

was it AVG suite, AVG AM or was it just the AVG AS you were using?

The thread title is classic. A title like that would make a good sticky. Definitely gives a new meaning to the adage "you get what you pay for".

If you feel that you have to download executables or applications from P2P networks, always scan them with every tool you have access to. If the file is small enough for VirusTotal, use it. I've downloaded my share of apps from P2P networks. They've turned out to be one of my best sources for trojans for test material. A substantial percentage of dedicated P2P users believe that security apps do nothing but slow down the transfer speeds. There's more than a few out there looking to take advantage of that.

no, AVG AS is not enough.

i suggest you get an antivirus

try the trials, and see which you prefer and works best for you.

 

No Firewall of any kind?
An Anti Virus definantly. Unless you have an advanced setup like some here.
Which apperantly you do not. WD is not the best IMO.

I'm saying, he would have used virtualization applications to his benefit if they were in his setup.
