Install Mode in Comodo provides next to no protection. You might as well turn off the HIPS in OA when installing software, instead of switching to Comodo just for this mode.

 

Exactly. Classical HIPS are perfect for "stable" setups. Meaning you only install programs sparingly. If you are a program junkie trying new programs, sooner or later, you will get the habbit of using installation mode. As long as you install clean applications, all is fine. But if by habbit, you install something not so secure, you will never know what hit you.

That's why i changed to Sandboxie and Threatfire. They aren't as perfect as a classical HIPS, but you don't have to enter "learning mode" when installing stuff.

 

OA was not stable on my system and I uninstalled it. In addition, OA slowed down my system. I like Comodo 3 and I would stay with that. I use it with Avira and it is very light and offers powerful protection.

 

The current "stable" release of OA, is much buggier than the current beta. Once the next stable release is out, you should try again. It is much improved.

Comodo 3 is fine too of course. But pending files can become boring if you install things often. Comodo does run a bit lighter though in CPU with p2p.

Anyway, it's a matter of taste. But don't write off OA just yet. It has a very interesting approach to things.Ideally i would like a firewall with some features from Comodo and some from OA.

And rebooting is hard? Is that what you mean.

 

It might be if you have to do it whenever you install software, and if you install software frequently.

 

I do I am a gamer. You dont have to reboot. Just close out explorer exe then restart explorer exe. I have never had to shut off hips anyways.

It is not an alternative for the "install mode" that is disabled in the free version.

Comodo if great for most users. OA slowed down my computer in several ways.

 

This issue was specially addressed and fixed after v31 (current release). There are only minor cosmetic bugs that do not allow to publish new release, but in any case this is a deal of the nearest future. I'm not authorized to advertise the new features (I'm just a betatester) new release brings, but there are some unique and very interesting ones, especially concerning wireless networks.

 

Turn off logging and Mike said it improves performance.

They said NDIS level of OA was completely reworked after V31. And I can second that network speed is now the same as it is without OA. And yes, turning on logging of everything brings slowdown even in the latest beta. I find it logical. After all you don't need to log all the packets all the time, just in case you tweak or debug or play with the settings.

Was just wondering, are there any changes to the design of the popus?

I remember I had sometimes problems locating the important information on my small notbook screen.

for example using different fonds would be helpful

also, will there be more information in the new version when a program wants to connect to the internet? like port and ip?
